Interesting first episode.  Seems weird to have it as a sort of "reality show", but I'm actually looking forward to witnessing this go down.  It also makes me wish that Metallica had released more extensive bass audition footage than they did on "Some Kind Of Monster".
A fun place to review and discuss metal: MetalMusicArchives

Looking forward to seeing Marco Minnemann's audition.  This video was way better than I expected it would be.

Also, check out Aquiles Priester.  This dude seems like he could handle Portnoy's job quite well:

Yes very interesting videos. The suspense is still there, after seeing the preview of the next episodes

i will say that first episode took a lot of my doubts about Mangini away, so if it is him, I don't think I'll be upset

The Dance of Eternity is probably the most brutal audition song in history.

This auditions footage stuff would make a really good addition to their next DVD, but as a method of revealing their new drummer it seems incredibility attention whore-ey.

First episode was pretty cool, Mangini seemed pretty awesome.

Not as likely, but I hope Lang gets it.

I'm betting it will be Lang. Seven drummers, six videos... Lang the only one not represented. Either he choked badly, or they chose him and are working the audience.

Are you sure that there are six videos? It says in the description to the first one that it's a three-part series.

Indeed... You have to have b*lls to take an audition like that...
Change the program inside... Stay in silence is a crime.

Very interesting.  Mangini off the bat seems like a great fit, I'll be sure to check out the other videos.

By the way, as I've given many interviews in the past few years it's cool to see that it's pretty much the same deal when the "company" is a band - talent is important, naturally, but it's about how well people work together and how well you think the candidate is going to be a member of the team.  The "best" drummer isn't necessarily the best fit.

I love DT but I care about the finished thing. I couldn't care less about their reality show...

Agree, wish they had done these videos more as a retrospective (I know it is for them) thing, and we could watch them back in full knowledge of the outcome. But, if this is way they're gonna do it, then this is the way we've got to enjoy it.

My apologies. I was mistaken as to the number of videos... Of the seven auditioned, apparently six are mentioned in the footage. Lang is not, so either he is later in the series, failed enough to have footage removed, or is the new drummer and will be shown last. Speculation on my part, but we'll see in time if the theory holds any truth.

Well, yeah, the album it's what I'm expecting to hear, but, just seeing Aquiles, Donati or the same mangini playing The Dance of Eternity is just a big deal... I hope the footage of the entire audition will be able somewhere, doesn't care if none of them end up in the band...

Well it's entertaining, and that's the buisiness they're in, although it seems to be geared a lot towards the Big Brother level.
Basically it's just about a drumming position in a band. We're seeing a very capable publcity machine working on all cylinders.
Quite silly, really.

Peter Wildoer is a teacher at my school. I knew he was good but I had no clue he was good enough to do something like this.
