Hi guys,I am from ex Czechoslovakia now Czech rep.Please check these out!!!!!
Kilhets(70¨s,80's experimental,zeuhl,rio) Svehlik(similar to Kilhets) Extempore Zikkurat(Rio,experimental) Pražský vyber(amazing band like Pere Ubu-Modern Dance) released album Straka v hrsti in 1982,btw it is qouted best album of all time in Czechoslovakia Electrobus Dvouletá fáma Uz jsme doma (highly recommended,Samla Mammas influence with punkish roots,they started as one of the best punk bands in the history FPB and transformed to UJD))these guys were asked by The Residents to play 20 of their songs on 20th of October this year in Olomouc .They already played with The Residents Freak show in Prague.Great clip is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94Ip76wb4dU Their shows will blow you away!I promise that. The Plastic people of the universe.What else can you say about them,so much was written,I can imagine to live without thir music and their influence on the fall of communism.I am very proud what they achived,in their music you can here and feel the pain and pleasure at same time,their music was so heavy anticomercial and antisocialistic,almost scary I can't blame komunists scared of PPU,never found another similar group of people in music.,What thay have done you can call Heroic!I recommend The Plastic people of the Universe & Agon Orchestra - Passion Play cd. |

The best Prog album from Romania is Sfinx - Zalmoxe. I think Czech Republic is the most Progressive country from the former Eastern Block. Edited by Mr. O - August 07 2010 at 10:23 |

^ Except obvious choice of Poland. But I'm already working on beating Poland with PA artists per capita :-) EDIT: And as I can see, it has been done. Poland has 38.000.000 for 92 bands You do the math. But Mr. O, why do you think that Czech Republic is the most Progressive country from the former Eastern Block ? You know some of our artists ? :-) |

There were so many professional Prog rock bands in the former Czechoslovakia. My favourites: Synkopy & Oldřich Veselý |

So you know the good ones. Indeed, our country's music scene was quite big, despite all attempts to cease it. It's not bad even now, but 69-89 is somehow better than 90-10

I don't think Olympic should be on the list.I would rather see there CK Vocal,Flamengo and more radical bands like Mch Band,Extempore or Svehlík. |
|||
My heroes are Frank Zappa,Ozzy Osbourne,The Plastic People of the Universe,Sun Ra and Mirek Wanek from Uz jsme doma

Some time ago, I saw one guy informally suggesting Olympic. You know the same thing as I do, Olympic are Pop Rock, nebo taky bigbít hudba, but simply not Prog. But I was curious and listened album Ulice, which sounds little bit better, but I'm still not sure if they're Prog enough to get here. They have better albums, worse albums, but some of them are more Prog, some are not. Which ones I should listen to ? Švehlík - Stehlík - MCH Band, what's the relationship between these bands ? I saw last week's edition of Bigbít and it was about all these weird groups, Extempore, Žabí hlen, Švehlík ... very nice episode. |

Speaking about Olympic, they have the album trilogy: Holidays On Earth, The Street and The Laboratory. The music is very close to Progressive Metal, Symphonic Rock. But indeed, they got popularity in the late 60s as Big Beat band.
