I found about this new band called Chain Romeo. It's very experimental. Highly recommend it. They have a bunch of songs up on myspace.com/chainromeo

Now the question is how I get their cd. I can't find them anywhere. Maybe they don't have a label.

Neurosis are savage alright man. Been listening to them for a good while now. Will have to check out the other bands you mentioned.

I'm in a heavey prog band from Ireland called LAMP. We just released our first album this month if you wanted to check it out.
It's called Sagittarius and you can download it for free from www.lamp1.bandcamp.com

I highly recommend the following rare 70's prog/psych/space rock bands: Minotaurus, 2066 & Then, Black Widow, My Solid Ground, Banco Del Mutuo Succorso, Bubu, Steve Hillage, Semiramis, and Amon Duul II.

Modern fantastic prog/psych/space rock: First Band From Outer Space, Acid Mothers Temple, Circle, Polytoxicomane Philharmonie, The Spacious Mind, Birds And Buildings, Diagonal, Hypnos 69, Vespero, Earthless, Farflung, F/i, Quarkspace & Seven That Spells.

I have quite a bit of rare releases on CD, both classic 70's stuff & modern. All the above bands are my favorites plus: Black Sabbath, Eloy, Electric Sandwich, Gentle Giant, Grobschnitt, Ash Ra Tempel, Popol Vuh, Omega, Il Belletto Di Bronzi, P.F.M., Goblin, Dzyan, Wallenstein, Van Der Graaf Generator, King Crimson, Quella Vecchia Locanda, R.R.R., Birth Control, Deep Purple, The Doors, Rush, Scvorpions, Judas Priest, Gong & Hawkwind.
And modern classics like Porcupine Tree, Ozric Tentacles, Monster Magnet, Oresund Space Collective, Hidria Spacefolk, Galacticka, The Future Kings Of England, Dead Can Dance & Devil Doll.

I highly recommend Viima, a progressive folk/symphonic prog band from Finland. They have 2 great albums which are both excellent. Their keyboard and guitar solos are the sweetest I have ever heard.

I recommend a local prog band from my country Egypt. The band is called "Azraq Samawy" which means "Sky blue". They sing in Arabic -which maybe weird for you-, but I like their music.
Hope you enjoy it.

People forget how progressive early chicago was, especially the first two albums. Not just progressive in how complicated it was, but the chords they used were very jazz influenced..amazing stuff.

Hi Proggers,

Now I'm living in Scotland, I've been getting to know some of the music up here.  I don't know if they've been mentioned, but I've really been enjoying 'Peatbog Faeries'.  Their music feels like the first properly successful blend of 'pipes/Celtic and rock - some great music for driving.

And a plug:  If you like your prog on the classical/ambient side (The Enid?), please check out my new album, "The Water is Wide Variations".  It is - and this may surprise you - variations on the theme "The Water is Wide".  Radio station 'The Dividing Line' has featured the album, with presenter The Amazing Wilf giving it a glowing report!

Of course, feel free to (legally!) download from the usual sources, but this is really a 'made for cd' album - the pieces have been written and planned to link through from one to another, sometimes with overlaps; and there's a 12-page booklet with imagery and info to complement each song.  If you're interested, please check out the extended excerpts at alfleeman.com

Just thought of another - 'Afro Celt Sound System'.  They're a bit like Enigma with added musical integrity!

Cheers - Al.

Just watch this one. It is only the first part of the Whirlwind by Transatlantic. Released in 2009. In my opinion one of the greatest modern progressive rock bands.
Also listen to this one. It's by Olive Mess from Latvia. From album Cherdak released in 2008.

One of those rare gems that is better with age. I bought this in 2007, and i think it's better now... There is a lot of moods going on this concept cd.Smile  Imagine Robert Smith of the Cure singing in a progressive rock band.
