Louis, it took noticeable amount of my time to sort out your very innacurate Marillion additions (both forgivable for PA newcomers, but awful for PA collabs). Please be more accurate in future.

Accurate??? How can you omit to include some songs of the album of Sunday in the database?

River
Bridge
Living with the Big Lie
Runaway
The Hollow Man
Born to Run
White Paper
Sugar Mice
Genie

- E&O Team: Nothing from Sunday was omitted on Friday album.
Many "thanks" to Marillion for releasing two different double CDs and DVD/BD, all with identical cover. LOL

Sorry to revisit an old nightmare, but I stumbled upon some more FLAC in the releases information section of one of TCat's album additions tonight I'm afraid. Did a quick Google search and found a few more too:

https://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=17312 (not available via Bandcamp, but it's available from various other sites such as Amazon and Apple Music, so doubtless available in other formats besides FLAC). The release date for the CD is given as 25th Jan 1991 on Musicbrainz, with ECM Records  827 419-2 as a second label reference.

https://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=6088 (not available via Bandcamp, but CD Baby no longer sells music downloads either, so needs to be replaced by digital album).

https://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=64722 (says 26x FLAC download - Hammock Music, but it's available on Bandcamp in all the usual different formats).

https://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=35679 (on Bandcamp - mentions MP3 as well as FLAC but would still be better to just say digital album).

https://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=41818 (on Bandcamp, and Mike's official website actually just says: Along with the CD of Wing Beat Elastic, one also gets a free digital audio download that includes an exclusive digital booklet.

^ Thanks, David. I guess 'slower' search can give more results. Smile

Julien, do we need to fix them manually or your script will kill the beasts?

Please have a look at this post in the Prog Metal team thread and give us your thoughts on what should be done. Can we allow both pages to remain and just cross reference them as Cristi suggests, or do we need to follow the existing convention that we use for artists who have simply changed their name since they were added (and thus have all their releases on the same page), and rename the page title of this band's original entry to include its new name as well as its old one, followed by a migration of the album it released under its new name to the (now renamed) page that was created under its old name? Does that make sense? Embarrassed

In my opinion, in this case, when the 'new' band has only one album, makes sense to merge 2 bands. Technically it's possible (move the sole SKY SIGNALS album to EX CURIA page, change the band name and then use the former SKY SIGNALS artist ID for some newly added band).
The only problem is EX in the name, because the resulting name would be SKY SIGNALS / EX EX CURIA.

I think it's up to Metal Teams to decide. Additionally, EX CURIA belongs to Experimental/Post Metal while SKY SIGNALS is in Progressive Metal.

^ Thanks for this, Eugene. It's what I was expecting that we'd need to do, so I'll ask Cristi to add my extra biographical info into the existing EX CURIA biography to make it more complete, and change the name of the EX CURIA page to SKY SIGNALS / EX CURIA (I think we need to omit the usual 'EX' prefix from the old band name in this particular case, otherwise it will look like a typo lol!). Either he or I can then move the SKY SIGNALS 'Illumine' album to the SKY SIGNALS / EX CURIA page and add "(As Sky Signals)" to its title.

The Prog Metal team can then use the old SKY SIGNALS page ID to add their next cleared artist, and that should be it. The result will be exactly what should have happened at the outset if they'd realised at the time of the SKY SIGNALS evaluation that that SKY SIGNALS and EX CURIA were just "same lady, different dress", as Mayer would say LOL.

The band started off as an Experimental/Post Metal band, and so should really stay in that sub. Many bands change the style of their music as they mature, but unfortunately PA doesn't provide a means of assigning more than one sub genre to them, and it's quite rare for the artists in our database to get moved to a different sub once they've they've been added.

The band stopped using the SKY SIGNALS Facebook page four and a half years ago, and from what they said in their last post on the EX CURIA Facebook page in March of last year, it appears that Sky Signals is already dead as a project. It seems that if they ever release any more material, it will once again be as EX CURIA rather than SKY SIGNALS, so any EX prefix that we had included in the name of the combined page would no longer apply anyway. With this in mind, I think we will also need to add "(As Ex Curia") to the names of the existing EX CURIA releases on the combined name page to make it clear which incarnation of the band had released them.

You are indeed correct, sir! The other music sites out there are able to assign multiple sub genres to their artists without issue, but they don't have the problem of all the different sub genre teams that we have here on PA.

If so, I'd suggest slightly different way:
- move SKY SIGNALS album to EX CURIA page and add "(as Sky Signals)" to its title;
- the band name would be EX CURIA / SKY SIGNALS or (maybe better) simply EX CURIA; Confused
- explain in the bio that the band was temporarily called SKY SIGNALS;
- use SKY SIGNALS artist ID for some newly added act.

While researching for the 90s live albums poll I noticed that according to wikipedia, Allmusic and Rate Your Music Marillion's live from Lorely was actually released in 2009 and not 1995 as listed on here.

Well, according to discogs, it was released on VHS back in 1987.

The DVD was released in the 2000s.

Thanks again for your all help with this issue, Eugene

Cristi first changed the name of the EX CURIA page to EX CURIA/SKY SIGNALS.

I then moved the 'Illumine' SKY SIGNALS album to the EX CURIA/SKY SIGNALS page and added "(as Sky Signals)" to its title to begin with, also changing the two existing releases on the page to include "(as Ex Curia") in their title, but then I looked at the Neal Morse page to see how the titles of albums that had been released as different variations of the same artist had been presented on that page, and decided to follow the same style with this album too, so its title now reads "Sky Signals: Illumine". I altered the two EX CURIA releases to show that same style of album title as well.

I had already written a full additional biography which included a history of all the line-up changes and the change of band name, and Cristi added this below the short existing introductory bio that was already on the page.

All that's left now on the old SKY SIGNALS page is a band photo and the old one line biography, so I have indeed suggested to the PM team that they reuse that page ID for their next addition.

There are a few bits of ï¿½ abracadabra where there should be an Ë in the new EX CURIA/SKY SIGNALS bio, but Cristi is aware of this, and he's going to fix that tomorrow morning. He will also insert spaces before and after the slash in the page title so that it becomes EX CURIA / SKY SIGNALS. That should then be the end of the matter! Smile

That's the VHS. What about the album which is where it is listed as being from 1995.

Well,

There are currently 228 album entries with the word "FLAC" within the Releases information field. That's a lot. I think we should look at them from newest to oldest, because nowadays FLAC is pretty much synonymous with digital album, but back in the days FLAC really meant FLAC (before digital platforms such as Spotify, Youtube music, etc.) Hope I make sense?

Quote because nowadays FLAC is pretty much synonymous with digital album
It is synonymous with digital download. A lot of modern digitally distributed albums are not downloadable and only available on streaming platforms.

^ Well, you're right. But this is not what I meant, sorry!

I meant that, most of the time, when PA members add an album with "FLAC" in the Releases information, it is synonymous with Digital album. Nowadays, at least.
