If I could pick one it would be the guy from Mastodon. He combines modern technique with a Bill Ward sort of flow.

But this is really sad (a friend of mine is in a "death in the family" level of stress). Although, if you think about it, it's a Portnoyish thing Cry

Guess you didn't hear. He is out. There is another thread about this project and the link to MP not being part of it.

Cry

Fortunately there is no way that Harrison be interested in a band like DT.

Damn good thing too!

I'm not sure that Gavin is interested in DT's guitarist's metal attitude ... and between you and I I got tired of it a while back!

MP's metal influence on DT has certainly led to some less desirable DT releases. Since FII, outside of 8vm, I have not really liked DT's stuff.

in a way I agree. Bill could easily play that stuff from a technical standpoint but he would need to have the intent.Could be fun if he really goes for it.Thumbs Up

Jimmy Chamberlin would be a nice choice, IMO.

Or maybe... Lars Ulrich Rawks

Maybe Johnny Sandin. He was good in Seventh Wonder and considering that he is quiting there, maybe DT could snag him before somebody else does?

Marco Minnemannin my opinion would not only replace Mike but also be a far better drummer.  I would love to hear what he can do creatively in the band.

i thought of another few

Johan Langell, the technical ability is there
David Gray (Akercocke), has some great ability
Jimmy Chamberlin, just because he is quite amazing
The black guy from Threshold, don't remember his name

How about Chris Quirarte, he's the guy who played on Redemption's Snowfall on Judgement Day album

Martin Lopez seems like a good choice and also they guy from Seige's Even or Pagan's Mind

^ I know Dennis Chambers - I even have one of his CDs. Awesome drummer, but I haven't heard him perform on metal tracks. That would be sort of a requirement with DT.

Having said that - how about Zoltan Csörsz? Big smile

Mr B would get my vote but I sense a reality TV show in the making here:

I wish people would lay off Lars Ulrich - he's a great drummer and one of Mike Portnoy's biggest influences.
