Yeah they are.  I only just started getting into them a month or two ago, but I've heard most of their albums at least a couple of times by now.  Without going into a band history, based on what I know about you I'd probably recommend you check out "Methodrone", their first album from the mid 90s and a very solid shoegaze-oriented album.  "Take it from the Man" is another good early one, but completely different sounding - this sounds like they were channeling the Rolling Stones in those exciting mid to late 60s years when they were experimenting with their blues/R&B style.  And yet it sounds pretty contemporary - that's the neat trick this band pulls off that keeps me interested in them.  sounding like it could have been made in the sixties without really sounding like it's trying to sound like that, if you get my drift.  They really do have that special spirit inside them, unlike so many would-be neo-psychedelic bands.

Sounding much more contemporary are their last three albums (the last of which "Aufheben",I was playing earlier), which are very experimental and very hit and miss but always intriguing.  I'd say "Aufheben" is the most consistent of these three.  It's almost kinda proggy.
