It is so nice to see the heart of this thread still beating…as it should. :)

A nice, chilled-out Saturday evening with my incredible audio. I’m one lucky guy, but only if my son goes to bed at a reasonable hour. :)

OSI— Blood ( 2cd deluxe. ) This is a classic to me now.

Saviour Machine— SM1. ( Quite a revisit. I learn something new every time)

Killing Joke— In Dub Vol.1

Depeche Mode— Spirit ( gotta honor Andy Fletcher. )

Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

^ Nice list! I don't remember listening to Mémoriance, I'll have to look into them. What's that Italian band, never heard of them.

Cool! It's been a while since I heard it. By the way you mentioned Hermeto Pascoal the other day, I might see him next week.

Going through my vinyl collection alphabetically and spinning records I barely spun and others I feel like playing:
Acid Mess - s/t
Ange - Caricatures
Atomic Rooster - In Hearing of (Still doesn't do anything for me, I might get rid of it.)
Atoll - Musiciens-Magiciens (Twice)
Ashra - Correlations (Twice. Always puts me in a good mood)
Harald Grosskopf - Synthesist (A nice transition after listening to him on that Ashra album)
Jakob Skøtt - Taurus Rising (Another solo electronic album from a drummer)
Renaissance - Carnegie Hall
Quella Vecchia Locanda - s/t
Peter Baumann - Romance 76

Oh, Sam, that first Memoriance album is a symphonic gem, give it a listen! Bit of a `desert island’ disc for me, or at least one I play constantly every year. Apparently the follow-up is good too, and I do have it, but I’ve never moved on to it because I’m still so obsessed after all these years with this first one!

L’Impero delle Ombre is a modern Italian band, been around for a little while, this was their third album. I recall when I first joined the Italian Prog Team and was more active with them that the band was being evaluated for the Archives, but the general consensus was that they were more hard-rock/metal based, despite also having plenty of Hammond/vintage keys, etc. That’s a pretty good description of them….a very decent band, really!

Aww, no, breaking my heart reading that about the Rooster album, buddy!
Caricatures, Synthesist, QVL, Romance 76….some fine selections there, mate

Just a few for me today:

Bi Kyo Ran – s/t (1982) – underappreciated and relentlessly manic Crimson-like Japanese stunner from the Eighties, absolutely sh*t-hot bass playing especially.

Myriad – Sea of the Sinking Sun (1996) – a humble little do-it-yourself Aussie melodic and dreamy prog gem from quite a while back somewhat in the manner of early Porcupine Tree.

Arabs in Aspic – Progeria (2003)
Arabs in Aspic – Far Out in Aradabia (2004) – Their early albums are so good, have a heavier stoner rock toughness to them.

Maserati – Rehumanzer (2015) – been a while between spins for this one, Sam! Awesome album, and THAT cover! Always reminds me of Tangerine Dream and Hawkwind meets Flock of Seagulls

Damn, Jim, good to see you, mate! I haven’t been very active on the Archives lately (just good ol’ “real life” stuff taking up a lot of my time), but it’s been a real stress relief again to start popping up in here and engaging with `the locals’ new and old. Hope you’re doing alright, buddy! And damn, look at the music bender you’ve been on!

Originally posted by mellotronwave mellotronwave wrote:

I notice this one’s been popping up a few times for you, Mailo! How do you find it? I think it’s OK, but nothing too special. I also find that Wilson kind of sabotaged the album a little by placing the three best pieces as mere `bonus tracks’ in the deluxe/art-book edition (that’s the one I bought), and they’re better than anything on the main 7-track album!

***

Anyway, gone all out today with an all-modern Italian prog session:

Finisterre – s/t (1995)
Il Giardino Onirico – Perigeo (2012)
Barock Project – Detachment (2014)
FEM Prog Band – Sulla Bolla di Sapone (2014)
Ingrannagi della Valle – Warmed Space Blue (2016)
Il Segno delle Comando – L’incanto dello Zero (2018)
La Stanza delle Maschere – s/t (2020)

Il Tempio delle Clessidre – Il-Ludere (2017) – Oh man, that opening track `La Parola Magica’ is still so cool…exceptional album overall, still one of my modern RPI favourites.

Mater a Clivis Imperat – Altrox Locus (2022) – a gorgeous and varied dark symphonic work in the manner of Jacula/Antonius Rex, given a lavish LP edition too

Didn't see the band then, only a few years ago. And will see him in October, a Fischer-Z solo gig, just John Watts with his electric guitar performing the whole album 'Red Skies Over Paradise', which is my favourite one.
