Tuesday: party
Wednesday: hangover and junk food Tuesday: sauna and beer with friends + rum and vodka with friends later on (a friend from my home town has just moved down to Uppsala, and this was his welcoming "party") Now I look forward to a WEEKEND of long walks, sobriety and relaxation. |

Wow, you make me sound healthy now Linus, but at least you had fun I imagine.
This week alone, I've walked 13 and a half hours, and plan to walk even more over the weekend (since it's only Friday now). Haven't drank since Sunday and don't plan to drink this weekend. |

I've just read the liner-notes and even Roger Wootton hates the second album and he wrote most of it!

James.
Being the avant granddaddy that you are...give me a recommendation that might suit me. |

Well what do you like already? That would help. ![]() It's a tough one... I'd say something like erm... something reasonably symphonic. Erm... it's tough, I know. Something Chamber Prog based my do the trick but I fear something else maybe more to your liking. |

Yep, he made his own "Echoplex" guitar in the 1970s. Quite innovative for the time. |

You know, I consider First Utterance as avant-folk... but I'm not suggesting moving them but I'd happily see them in the avant-prog genre.

I haven't even dipped my toe in proper avant territory, with Area being the rare exception. And yes, I like symphonic, but not specifically classic British symphonic prog. More like eclectic-symphonic-quirky. Or something like that. RPI, naturally, preferably the rougher bands instead of the silkier ones. But those can be good to. In short: I don't have very specific taste. But something which isn't very out-there or extremely jazzy would be nice. |

Hmmm then try Picchio dal Pozzo or Stormy Six (L'Apprendista is the one I've heard).
The first have a Canterburian quirkiness about them but they're Italian and also rather avant-prog too. Stormy Six are more folk-based. Plus both are not too unaccessible. Also, don't listen to Alex who will suggest Henry Cow. Perhaps also try some samples of Univers Zéro or Samla Mammas Manna. |

Picchio dal Pozzo and Stormy Six have already piqued my interest. Will try to check out the others as well. I just feel that the sub is a blind spot for me. Now it's definitely bedtime. See you. |

Weird, I thought the Echoplex, in fact, I think I'm pretty sure it was an analog tape delay machine, not a guitar ![]() |

It is.
But: John Martyn is widely acclaimed as the pioneer of the echoplex. Perhaps the earliest indication of his use can be heard on the songs Would You Believe Me and The Ocean on the album Stormbringer released in February 1970. This was a first taste of things to come from Martyn’s interest in electronics and the boundless possibilities of electric music. Glistening Glyndebourne on the album Bless The Weather (1971) showcased his developing technique of playing acoustic guitar through the echoplex to stunning effect. He later went on to experiment with a fuzz box, a volume/wah wah pedal and the echoplex on highly acclaimed Inside Out (1973) and One World (1977). Martyn is cited as an inspiration by many musicians including U2's The Edge. |
