Van der Graaf Generator - The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other - This is my first time listening to this one. As far as initial impressions, I can't say that it's totally won my love over, but there are some nice points to it. In fact, along with H To He, I'd probably consider this to be one of their strongest ones; the first two tracks don't do much for me, but from White Hammer on, this is a solid jazz-fused prog record. Hamill's voice is nice and refined, never too overbearing like it can get on their later releases. The more sax-dominated, jazzier sections (eg. Robert) are very tastefully done, and Out of My Book is quite a pretty track. The above average guitar presence is also a nice touch. And the end of White Hammer has some real nards to it. Very intense section of music.

Dun - Eros - My second time listening to this, actually, as part of my recent initiative to expand my Zeuhl horizons. I've gotta say, it was a little dense to get through the first time, but now I'm really loving the grooves and solos. The rhythms are oddly bouncy, which gives a much lighter feel than a lot of the other Zeuhl I've heard, and I adore the flute lines throughout.

Andre Fertier's Clivage - Mixtus Orbis - Another first-time listen, this one probably comes in third tonight but is still a very good find. A short-but-sweet fusion of ethnic Eastern music with jazz. The way that the first side builds up is really incredible, and the jazzier leanings that open the second side are very nice.

Ha, here's one album I'd like to know your opinion about Tongue What did you think of it?

Handwrist - A Vibe to the Perplexed
Alms - An Irosmic Tragedy
Blood Ceremony - Lord of Misrule
Jaga Jazzist - One Armed Bandit
Souq - At La Brava (I forgot about this one until they announced something more about a new album)
Alphataurus - s/t (The most attentive listen so far. I didn't notice before how much it sounds like VdGG, including the vocals. I'm glad there are not much vocals and the instrumental is really good: dark, atmospheric and bombastic.)

Sam, I think it is excellent, which I have expressed on my earlier posts on here. The music is progressive electronic in the truest sense of the term. It's timbrally beautiful, well composed, and incredibly atmoshperic. "1966 - Let the New Age of Enlightment Begin" is my absolute favorite. Fabulous album, one of my top electronic albums of the 21st century even.

^ Sorry, I didn't see it. I agree, it's one of my favourite modern electronic albums as well, although I was never able to pick a favourite track. To be honest I don't even know the song titles, I just turn off the lights and immerse myself in that dark atmosphere Approve I never watched the movie but a friend of mine said the music is the only good thing about it Tongue

My dad is a science-fiction researcher at the university and it was actually him to tell me about the soundtrack to Beyond the Black Rainbow, saying I might just like it. I asked him about the movie itself yesterday and he said it's very strange and that even him might not have fully comprehended it. Tongue

Yes - Talk - The most underrated Yes album in my opinion, and the best one post-Relayer. Lots of people criticize the production on this one but I think it's the best-produced Yes album, period. I can see why the heavier edge on the drums may put some people off, but the band as a whole is so full and crystal-clear. The more rock/pop-oriented tracks, like The Calling and Walls are tons of fun, and really play up the positivity that only Yes can put into their music. And don't even get me started on The Endless Dream. This one is only just slightly beneath the level of Close To The Edge, Tales and Gates of Delirium as far as quality Yes epics, and smokes everything else they did after those. The instrumental opening is so fiery and intense, and the main Talk section is so melodic and moving. In fact, as much as I love all of Yes' 70's output, the climax on this one is the only Yes track that's brought me to tears from its sheer majesty and beauty. Really a shame that this album never made as much of an impact in the prog sphere, let alone commercially.

The Beatles - Abbey Road - Probably my favourite Beatles album, this one is always a delight. Maxwell's Silver Hammer is one of my favourites, with its ironically bright and bouncy depiction of cold-blooded murder.

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's - Not my favourite, but Mr. Kite and A Day In The Life are both cool songs.
