Practice times from Austin. Apparently it's a bit cold out there and the track is lackign a lot of grip, people were going off quit a bit in practice, particularly at turn 19. Vettel had a water leak on his car which is why he only did half the laps of everybody else.

Yeah, his first NASCAR championship and the first championship for his team, Turner Motorsports.  Wild finish, too.

I didn't know it was first for TM. Thats great. Clap

And yes it was. Truck series...still providing the best racing of the top three NASCAR series IMO.

^Agreed.  Plus, a lot of the drivers are mainstays in the series and aren't looking at the truck series as a stepping stone to Cup, like Nationwide has become.

Watching this F1 Austin race, I'm not sure how I feel about this new track.  Plus, Vettel's led every lap so far.  Ugh.

I like it thusfar. Not my favorite, but pretty good lookin if nothing else. Though I enjoy Vettel leading...keeps Alonso from doing it. Tongue

Pretty good race. I love the track.
Great race for the lead with Vettel and Hamilton pushing each other all race along, and flying away from the pack.

Great win for Lewis and obviously beneficial for Alonso.
He's technically still in it, anything can happen but...well Fernando better start praying to the racing gods. Even with a win gunna need some help from Vettel, who is a very clutch driver. Don't see him pulling out the title but crazy things have happened.

Hopefully it'll be a helluva finale

Well...it seems that if Vettel finishes at least 4th in Brazil it's game over. Title is his.
Of course anything can happen any race but the chances of Vettel finishing 5th? Certainly he is in the cat bird seat.

This is obviously assuming Alonso wins. If he was to finish 2nd then Vettel would need to finish 8th for Alonso to win the title.
And 3rd place?? Well if that was to happen he pretty much needs Vettel to DNFLOL
So yeah, Fernando's chances are slim but we shall see what goes down!

^ Indeed. By no means counting chickens. All sorts of mechanical bugaboos could arise, not to mention possible tanglings with others (either lapping thesuck cars or in the opening few laps, esp if he doesn't get pole)

Amazing race, I think COTA certainly surpasses Turkey as the best of the Tilke dromes. Great racing throughout the race and through the field. Raikkonens pass on Hulkenburg at turn 2 early on was a real hilight, the onboard showing how he was fighting the wheel to stay on track during the process was breath taking. Role on Brazil, where I'm rooting for Alonso.

Congratulations to Brad Keselowski and Roger Penske for winning the 2012 Sprint Cup Championship.  It's Penske's first Cup championship, which almost seems hard to believe.

Also, congrats to Jeff Gordon on picking up win #87 and for checking off Homestead on his list of tracks he's never won on.  I believe Kentucky is the only one left, now.

I've fallen out of NASCAR totally by now (I just watch the 500 these days) but it is great to see someone besides JJ win for once!
I dont hate him like I used to though. Just like Schumacher, if you're just the best...well what can we do?

Indeed, COTA is great. The Tilke tracks seem calculated to me, formulaic. OK I know COTA is pretty much a bunch of other ones stuck together...but I like it's long flowing nature.
Also, supposedly the facilities were top notch.

I"m not a Brad K fan but I am happy to see the captain get a title in his trophy case.

And thats right! I totally forgot he had never won there. Awesome. Clap

It also feels weird that even though NASCAR is over we still have F1 racing going on. Tongue

But no complaints. Racing season can never end IMO.

^Agreed.  I have a love/hate thing with fall.  It means the end of racing for the year, but then I love the cold weather and football.  And then, before I know it, February arrives, along with Speedweeks at Daytona!

Not much of a NASCAR fan, but even I find it hard to believe this is Penske's first first stock car title, such a legend in single seaters, even for us Europeans (shame he closed the F1 team down, I'm sure he would have won titles there as well).

I'm interested to see if Jay Penske's Dragon Racing team can take the fight to his dad Roger's team next year in Indycar.

^Penske did get a Nationwide title with Keselowski in 2010, but this is his first Sprint Cup title, so technically his second "stock car" title.
