Yeah, that's what I was afraid.

Would owning a cat or a dog help?

Also, liking the little "wink-wink nudge-nudge" at the rapture in Ciaran's song selection.

So top five songs about the end of the world?

Go!

Rush aren't terrible.  I don't hate them.  I would never play them on a radio show though.  Not even if someone requested them.

If I had a show, I'd try and enlighten people by playing stuff they haven't heard before and no, I wouldn't play avant-prog and Zeuhl either.  I might once in a while but I'd go easy on my audience.

Go!

Any five GY!BE songs. LOL

As for having a dog, my neighbor has a couple of outdoor labs but they don't bother the gophers, only the birds.

I know Supertramp aint your cup of tea nor coffee, but if this song does not give an image of doom and destruction well, im at lost. but the ending fanfare is pretty dark and loooming

I've never heard any so-called decent Genesis, Lizzy.  I thought you knew this?

Stairway to Heaven?

Bearing in mind that it once was good before it became overplayed...

Oh wait, I kind of can think of two.

After the Flood and Childlike Faith at Childhood's End.

I don't hate Rush, even if I pretend to. All of their pre Moving Pictures albums give me this feeling of 'Uhm, it doesn't bother me, and it doesn't excite me. It's the same, technically skilled type of rock riff for hour after hour, until Geddy Sings some chorus, Lifeson is given permission to play a great solo, or Pert decides to rape classic philosophy'.

Which, by the way, is hilarious. Have you heard 'Free-will'? I will choose Free will!

Quick thoughts: If free will exists, why do you have to choose it? I mean, if free will exists, you have it no matter what, so you can't NOT choose it. It's like saying I choose to be comprised of atoms!

And on the other side of the coin, if free will does not exist, how can you choose it? You'd only be saying you chose it out of circumstance. It'd be like saying I choose dragons or I vote Republican - it just don't make a difference. So, how the hell can anybody cite this as an example of excellent lyricism (believe me, they have)? Not to beat a dead horse but:

WHAM WHAM WHAM, Yeah you deceased beast of burden, WHAM WHAM WHAM tiddlybop.

I like YYZ a lot, though.

End of the world music:

Tom Waits' Bone Machine - all of it. All our hatreds, fears, pains, maligned aspirations, choked screams for help in a universe that is unfeeling, and all our unanswered prayers in one disc.

I was going to suggest The Doors' The End
