you heard Botch? really cool mathy stuff, hard to understate their influence on the scene.
a lot of grindcore could be related to math/tech core stuff. the locust are pretty sweet, and ive been really digging this hardcore band called daughters lately. mind melting, face obliterating. pretty tech/ borderline mathy at times. |

Yeah, heard a bit of Botch, some of the more classic tech metalcore, but I'm yet to get a whole album of theirs.
I'll check Daughters too and The Locust if I can remember too. |

So someone (NaturalScience?) said that he ordered Traced in Air because the eMusic MP3s were crappy quality: how did that work out? I think I'm going to get it because it is the first tech metal I've really liked, although I kind of liked that Orthrelm album with the owl on the cover, even if it all sounded the same. Unless Natten's Madrigal counts as tech, but I'm pretty sure that's extreme.

I just got "Planetary Duality" by The Faceless yesterday. Great stuff! Though I can't listen to "Planetary Duality I" without thinking of "Faaip De Oiad" by Tool.

Oh man, off discussion slightly, but I just whacked out Prequel To The Sequel once again at full volume. That jazz section at around the 4 minute mark gets me every time...

^Eh, it's on topic, so nothing wrong there.
Colors is still in at least once weekly rotation for me, sometimes up to 5 times a week. I really do like it that much. Not sure who this would interest, but there is an album, a instrumental guitar compilation, featuring several (relatively) big name guitarists. It's got: Paul Waggoner (from Between the Buried and Me) with his madness sweep picking chops of doom. Kris Norris from Darkest Hour, who is a melodic death/metalcore band, but geezus, Norris is a serious guitar player Dave Martone (don't really know who he is) Ron Thal, whom you'll recognize as guitarist of Guns and Roses, but is due to come under PA as a solo artist. Both guitarists from Daath are featured, Daath of course being a band under Tech/Extreme here. Shane Gibson, solo artist and currently guitarist of Korn. Okay, you might be thinking "guitarist of Korn, eww", but the guy has insane chops and talent when you put him in a solo situation. Devin Townsend (formerly of Strapping Young Lad, among other bands) Chris Poland, a name you guys might know from Megadeth. Ola Frenning and Christopfer Malmstrom, of Soilwork/Darkane Mike Orlando, solo artist James Murphy, formerly of legendary metal bands like Death, Obiturary, Testament, to name a few. And the dudes from Anthropia. While, it's not strictly prog metal stuff itself, the stuff on their is pretty techy and some is in the Extreme Tech metal vein if myspace samples are anything to go by and it's the sort of non prog metal that some prog metal fans could like anyway, and if you're a guitarist/shredhead like me, that likes a more progresive and more metal twist on it, should check it out. Who knows, it could even have full blown Tech/Extreme prog metal tracks on here if you get to here the full length tracks. Just putting that one out there, I figure at least one person can be interested in this. |
