I think people who drive like idiots should be dragged from their cars and shot. Ok, maybe not. But I think only about 5% of the driving population are actually capable of driving like civilized, rational human beings and those who are not should not have a license. And driving without a license should result in a jail term. As for texting and/or talking on cell phones, the chances are high that it will lead to reckless driving or cause an accident. Driving is (or at least should be) a privilege, not a right. And there should be limits on that privilege.

^I'm sure men who while driving look at women walking on the streets has caused a few accidents. Let's make that illegal. Or hey, better yet, let's put a device in cars that blocks men's blood from reaching their instrument. Even better, let's just outlaw pretty women...
The more I read in the news about accidents, the more I realize a big big percentage is caused by just incapable, reckless, or bad drivers. Let's outlaw them. Or, better, let's find a way that allows our governmentto test people's driving skills and, based on that, issues them a permit to drive. Yes, that will make or roads safer! It's a great idea. Oh, wait.... |

1. That better be a joke. 2. I agree. The problem there is that if the government actually did just refuse to issue licenses and/or started revoking licenses of bad drivers (an idea I absolutely agree with), it would hurt the rich bstds who run the oil industry. Not to mention the automobile industry. Think of how many rich CEOs that would hurt. Won't someone please think of the wealthy CEOs. |

How isn't driving a right? Who gives you the privilege? Where does it come from? Only 5% of the population? Probably more like 90%. What does it matter about the chance? Chances are high that a person born at Lawndale and Luzerne in Philadelphia will shoplift. We don't throw them in jail out of the womb. This isn't a game of probabilities. You're not running a computer simulation. We punish people when they do something wrong. You don't bring the hammer down on someone because you find something to be likely. |

Yeah and libertarians don't care about poor people... Are you seriously so blinded by your paranoid hate of anyone with money that you would destroy the living standards of a majority of people living in this country? |

Newt would decide. Because everyone knows he will make himself King and the congress will cede all power to him.

I don't think the CEOs of the oil companies would be hurt that much if drivers licenses were restricted.

... ... ... I have no words. If you bothered to read anything, I was clearly talking about stripping 99% of the population of their ability to drive. |

I'm so glad that you agree that that the wealthy should pay more in taxes. You have no words? Did I strike a nerve or something? Edited by Slartibartfast - December 10 2011 at 09:28 |

It's Saturday. That means I don't expect to interact with folks who don't read or pay attention to context and still act like they accomplished some kind of moral victory.

It's frustrating that you would say something like that when it's a blatant misrepresentation of what I was saying. |

By the way, I think the Doctor who, has the whole 5% of the population being capable of driving has it wrong. I think about 10-15% of the drivers are bad and/or incompetent and they wreak most of the havoc. I will grant it's just dead reckoning on my part from driving for around 30 years and sometimes being the one who made a mistake.
Newt's high in the polls now. When does Ron Paul ever get his shot? After tonight's debates? Edited by Slartibartfast - December 10 2011 at 09:55 |

My feelings about driving in this country have nothing to do with my "paranoid" hatred of anyone with money (which by the way, I do not hate everyone with money - there are some with money who actually do care about the common good , treat their employees fairly and some who even want to pay higher taxes and I respect those wealthy individuals who do). It's unadulterated greed and those who are greedy whom I have a paranoid hatred for. Those who abuse their wealth and power who I despise. But back to the topic of drivers. Whether it's closer to my 95% or Slarti's 10-15%, those who show no respect for the safety and welfare of others when they are behind the wheel of a car have no business being behind the wheel of a car. Accidents do happen, but most accidents happen because someone isn't driving the way they're supposed to drive. When you get behind the wheel of a car, you are in control of a potentially deadly weapon and all drivers should act accordingly. If you are unable to do so, then you should not have the right/privilege to drive. |
