When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light. Through the skies, his white horse flies. To find a land beyond the night. |

10 people voted for Vangelis.......I never have understood the love for this guy. His electronic 'soundtrack' music has always bored me to tears.

^ Then I guess electronic ambient music isn't for you. Try acoustic stuff, like something from Harold Budd.

China and Beauborg as well I suppose from the 80's onwards it could be argued that Vangelis just followed a tried and tested formula , something he has almost admitted. Record company pressure to release those 'Vangelis sounding' albums and indifference to his more adventurous efforts such as Invisible Connections and Mask which is where I think he wanted to go with his music.. That said I love Voices from his later period. Just beautiful music , no one should be bored by this.

Not just a tested formula. Invisible Connections was released in 1985 and it's very different from any other of his albums.

Revisited the thread....I'll try a few of those Vangelis selections. I do have 666 by Aphrodites Child...of course, but the only Vangelis I bought was on vinyl many years ago called 'Albedo'.. something.

Albedo 0.39 is one of my favorites. If you don't like it, may be not worth checking the others.

Vangelis is good, very relaxing. Yeah I guess he doesn't fit under
progressive electronic, but surely crossover is more apt than related.
Far more concerning is Iron Maiden currently in the lead. I thought PA was generally avoidant of neanderthal music (metal is not doing well in the favorite subgenre polls). |

Thatis considered by many to be one of his best releases and a classic, but Vangelis has actually been pretty eclectic. His more ambient and new agey stuff you'd probably want to avoid. If you have the time, you might be interested in checking out The Dragon and Hypothesis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uS8AO54suYE&index=1&list=PL460D54F02AA73B1D Earth is one of my favourites of his. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE3FF711E9E434ECD ------------------------------------------------------------------ Anyway, I think my top two from the list would be Bowie and Riley these days. |

A lot of artists here I kind of want to hear that I haven't yet. So I'm not particularly confident with my vote, but I went with Syd Barrett. The Madcap Laughs is pretty great.
