I haven't heard the new album much, but I wasn't that impressed. It was alright; I'll have to hear it more.

I used to like Porcupine Tree alot, but I've kinda grown away from them anyway.

Still like them, there are just other things I enjoy much more now.

the new PT is interesting at the least...sometimes it bores in a restless way....other times it really has this longing vibe that latches on to me

Alex! Something good came out of that stupid too many listens thread. I wasn't too impressed with Zu in the past, but this new album is freaking epic. It's probably because it's on Ipecac and has Mike Patton guesting on vocals, he makes everything better. The song is only 4:34, I don't know why the video is so long.

I don't know how much you like avant-garde music Rico, but go for it! I'm going to eMusic it right now so I have another 2009 album of the year contender. I was wondering who had picked up the legacy of Last Exit.

And I was mistaken, it was the Musical Masochism thread, which is much better because Dick Heath makes good posts.

I'm proving capable of appreciating it a lot, and my transformation into a Zorn fanboy is 25% complete.

The "or?' was based on hearing Zu have a strong metal approach.

25%, that's pretty good. I don't know how metal one could objectively consider it.

Am I the only person here who thinks that Drawing The Line is a really awesome song?

Oh well. Listening to my 33 of Yes' Drama.

I don't mind Drawing The Line, but they have some better pop-rock sounding tracks...

I recently ordered a SHM-CD copy of DRAMA for my dad as a gift - It has the same packaging as the LP, which he still has a copy of, but the remaster has 10 bonus tracks. It wasn't too expensive, either!

you're all opposing me passive-aggressively? That's disappointing.

Okay, I'm going to go listen to AFI and paint my nails black and wear more jewelery than your stepmother on her night out of the trailer.

That does sound epic.

And yes, Mike Patton makes everything better.

MMMmmm. Wadada Leo Smith's new album is superb. Thumbs Up

Broad genre?

Well the first disc is with his Golden Quartet ( trumpet, piano, bass and 2 drummers). Which performs amazing Free Jazz with excellent improvisations. The Second disc is more groove oriented and performed by his Organic group(trumpet, 4 guitars, cello, electric bass, acoustic bass, and drums)

There's plenty of variety at work here. One of my fav jazz releases of the year already. Thumbs Up

You had me at "Free Jazz".

I really need more jazz from this year. I hardly have any. I have a good amount of contemporary jazz, just not from 2009. What all do you have from this year?

I have...

Acoustic Ladyland - Living With A Tiger
Andy Sheppard - Movements in Colour
Chick Corea and Hiromi - Duet
Chick Corea & John McLaughlin - Five Peace Band Live
John Surman - Brewster's Rooster
Led Bib - Sensible Shoes
The Stanley Clark Trio - Jazz in the Garden
Wadada Leo Smith - Spiritual Dimensions
Flat Earth Society - Cheer Me Perverts!

heh...guess I need more myself.

Mmmmm.

I also need that Wadada Leo Smith.  I have some of his other albums but simply haven't heard them yet.

And although it's not a 2009 release, don't forget Jean Louis.  It's an awful record.  I hate it.  Alex will to, so he shouldn't hear it.

Did a zombie walk today.
We zombified ourselves, (along with 300 other people) and just walked around the city of Harrisburg. It was actually a lot better than I thought, and some people made some really amazing costumes.

The entire album is on the band's Myspace page, I'm listening to it now...very impressive stuff.
