I would say 20 was a good age to start. Just think, by the time you're my age you'll have been playing for 28 years and should be at Petrucci standard at least.
I only started on the guitar a few years ago (although I have been a bass player for around 30 years) and never had a lesson, which probably explains why I'm crap.

I started at 40 & for various reasons () stopped around 43... which explains why I'm crap at the Hammond.
Still looks good in the lounge though |

Angelo, No, it's the playing of the saxophone that is the key. He portrayed marvellous imagery with his sax playing. If he was thinking about beautiful women at the time of playing, I am sure the sound he created would be shaped like a gorgeous female. |

Nice reply, James.
@JJ: I bought a guitar when I was 15, but never learned to play it properly until I started taking bass guitar lessons 3 years ago. It's never too late to start making music. I actually squeezed out an excellent bass solo last sunday (not according to me, but to my teacher who was lurking behind the amplifier) - it was so good that I can't even remember what I played. |

With all the online resources and intensive tuition available these days I'd say it's never too late to start on the guitar - when I were a lad you might, if you were lucky, find a 'folk guitar' teacher who'd show you a few basic chords, strums and picking patterns, but that was about it.
I'm still crap to this day, but I've extended my lack of ability to the ukulele and harmonica as well.

Thay looks like it was taken outside Macari's on Charing Cross road - they've certainly got a few of those beasties in stock.

If you don't want the bass guitars included, this could be an alternative. And you're missus will consider all you play to be a serenade. |

Ugh...I hate Batio. AND that disgusting quad neck guitar. Although, I hate most shredders. The only ones I do like are Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. |

Bless'im - I love the "I'm a serious musician - give me respect" face, too
If you want a serious double necked guitar, there is none cooler than this: Ironically, hinged in the middle, which is more than can be said for its owner, who is distinctly unhinged (yet still a national treasure) |
