Mon Oncle - A funny Tati film.  The second featuring Mr. Hulot.  I haven't seen any of his other films, but this was quite entertaining.  Great humor, nice story, great shots and buildings. 7.5/10

Stir Crazy -  Hard to beat a film starring Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor.  Hilarious. 8/10
Wild Strawberries - Ingmar is awesome.  the subject of death in this film only reminded me of The Seventh Seal, but was a completely different film of course.  However, equally good.  Swedish language is beautiful.  The story was well told, and the characters were all very interesting. 8/10

A Face in the Crowd - in the process of watching this right now actually, but its over half finished. Andy Griffith is brilliant. And the story is entertaining and frightening.  An influence on Network, probably.  Another Elia Kazan masterfilm? I'd say so.  8/10

The Vikings - The underappreciated epic from the mid 50s starring Tony Curtis, Kirk Douglas, and the bombshell known as JAnet Leigh.  Three great stars, an awesome story, AND about Vikings? sounds like a winner.  And it was.  great action too. 9/10

Butterflys are Free - a goofy flower power era film based on a play starring some guy and goldie hawn.  It was nice, but not amazing or anything.  Goofy and maybe a bit dated, but still a nice story and character developement.  I generally think plays adapted to film are awkward, but this worked. 6.10

12 angry men... the original... It's a masterpiece but I think the newer version with Jack Lemmon has better performances and the addition of a more realistic racial theme (this one has blacks and hispanics) adds to the effect.

Yes... and in this case the difference is much bigger... While i can understand why the original 12 Angry Men is seen as the superior one (even after the positive upgrades I think the new one received), in the case of Failsafe I would never take the dragging-slow, wooden-acted original over the excellent tele-play with terrific performances like Richard Dreysfuss. I only saw the original once, but I remember being tremendoulsy dissapointed. The new one I have on DVD as I do the original 12 angry men (the new one I've seen like 7 times in cable but it's not out in DVD).

^ I agree, the remake for TV was terrific, as good and often better than the old one which was also excellent

Sicko 9/10

The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) - Man this stunk, 2 and a half hour movie I wasn't expecting much, and I was right...a mess of a movie that didn't have any continuity to keep me interested, also plenty of gratuitous sex that really has no purpose other than to show bush, big deal, I wonder what David Bowie thinks of this movie now? As a self proclaimed Science Fiction geek...I barely found anything in this that does any justice to the genre, the scenes of Bowie's character's homeworld and situation there were the only thing I found kind of neat the rest was preposterous , it was an adaptation of a novel by a dude named Walter Tevis, so I wonder how the source material is? although Im not all that anxious to find out either 3/10

The Bicycle Thief (1948) - such a sad little movie with somewhat of a timely story and setting, you really feel sorry for the man and his family and how far he goes to try to get that damned bike back, it's a humbling movie that all can take something from in hard economic times, its also an interesting glimpse into post-ww2 Italy 8/10

Lathe of Heaven (1980) - this is a PBS made film, an adaptation Ursula K. Le Guin's classic novel of he same name, what I like about this is that it was made in the late 70s and therefor had a very trippy 70s feel to it with the synthesized somewhat Proggy music, crude special effects, primitive computer consoles, and 70s fashion-hairstyles etc. I was surprised how incredibly well it followed the book...the story was left intact and the ideas were conveyed pretty well, despite the low budget and limited technology at the time I think this movie is a admirable adaptation, the ending might be a tad shakey and confusing for those not familiar with the book but all I can say to that is read the F'ing book! 8/10

Le Samourai - AWESOME.  Jean Pierre Melville is killer.  This was one badass french gangster film.  I want to go buy it.  9/10

Notorious - Hitchcock with Grant and Bergman.  I wasn't too into it. Seemed a bit off, not nearly as thrilling as his other films.  Its a classic I know, but i didn't feel for it.  6/10

Black Mamma White Mamma - AWESOME! haha yes I know, didn't like the hitchcock, but was more than entertained by a silly exploitation flick.  Honestly, this was pretty funny and ridiculous. 7/10
Cotton Comes to Harlem - BORING blaxploitation with an appearance or two from Red Foxx, directed by Ossie Davis of all people! turned it off halfway through. 3/10

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington - Amazing. 10/10

If the rumours are true, I fear the new Batman movie might be a major disappointment.

Eddie Murphy as the Riddler, Shia LaBeouf as Robin... Can't see how even Nolan could make that pair work.  Wacko Rachel Weisz is excellent though (rumoured to be Catwoman).

Having rather liked the previous two installments, here's hoping the third one will be just as good.

I hear sharks jumping.... Really...

Eddie Murphy??? Even JIMCARREY was better for the Riddler (and believe me, I CAN'T STAND the guy).

ShianLebeouf??? Some people in the funeral business have more charisma than that guy.

RAchel Weisz??? Well, that's less awful but she won't match The Pfeiffer.

Atrocious. All we need is Nolan stepping down and Schumacher coming back.

I thin this is impossible. Thos kind of actors don't sound like the choice of a serious Batman series like all the ones so far... especially Murphy...

The Fall-
this one is odd.  I really, really enjoyed it's ability to weave a good story within a story, that of art imitating life, just like all films.  This one was supposedly 4 years in the making- and boy does it have some cinematic feasts for the eyes.  Very vibrant and colorful, great views and shots and angles.....in short, it is pure poetry in motion.  The story will perhaps go down as a very tragic one, yet the ending let me down somewhat, because I got sucked into the fantasy of the internal story and left behind the "real" story, meanwhile I think it was an homage to movies, film-makers, stuntmen and all those involved in films.  Like Russian dolls, one inside the other, there are many layers to this one and I think I might actually buy a copy!  do watch this one....it is one of a kind for sure.  The only comparison I can make visually would be the surreality of the film The Cell with Jennifer Lopez, even though that film may not have been so great, the visuals are scrumptious.  Overall though, The Fall is generally a take on the archtypical heroes and their conquests and challenges.  Well done!    8.5/10

^ Luckily, it seems the rumours weren't true.

BTW, Batman & Robin is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Cool

The rumor about Shia LeBouf is false.  And Murphy's suggestion seems too ridiculous to be true.  Weisz? Maybe I don't know.  She's usually good, but I don't know about her being Catwoman.  We'll see.

Coffy -  WOO! Kick ass.  Pam Grier plays the perfect part of a foxy ass whoopin revengaholic.  One of the best lines in cinema history occurred in this film "I though it was because when a man gets my age he can't...satisfy them lusty young bitches no more" 8/10

Truck Turner - Blaxploitation is rocking my Mac the past few days.  This time it was Isaac Hayes whoopin ass instead of Pammy cakes. What a great movie.  Full of amazing one liners, action, and great music.  And one hell of a plot to destroy evil.  "Tell you got hit by a Mack truck.  Mack Truck Turner."
