I guess that's why sometimes I really do prefer forums to real life social situations. On many of them, many of the members are mature, full grown educated adults, and it's good to see they care about stuff like politics, the economy or whatever, and not the crap many teenage people think they need to care about.

I enjoy these forums for good reason... mainly for sharing this interest that I hold so dear in my everyday life, but also because the people are (generally) well-mannered, intelligent, etc., like you said. Plus, developing friendships in general on PA and especially here through the SR is quite rewarding, as opposed to real life social situations, which I mostly find very unsatisfying. I assume when I get older it'll probably be better as well, as the few people I have even spoken to so far this semester at college have all been 30+ years or older, mostly.

I never would have thought my average would be that high, even if it was a peak.

Well for me, if I have to be completely honest, I don't really myself as a real big proghead. Over the last few years, I've grown up around guitar playing, heavy metal and more recently prog in general, so really, I love to be to go to a forum where they discuss metal or guitar too, because obviously those aren't big topics here, but at other places I can feel more free to discuss that stuff and have people know what I'm talking about. Really, I'm more into playing than both prog and metal, so I see myself kinda as a "jack of all trades, master of none", because I know people can wipe the floor with me with their knowledge of prog or metal.

Yeah, I can understand that. I, however, am pretty much a full-blown proghead. I've been gathering information since 2005, so I know alot (which has a notoriety with my colleagues)... but in comparison to some people who are specialized on here, I still have quite a bit to go.

Ah okay, yeah. Sometimes it bothers me, people suggest "get this prog album!", but sometimes I just really want to get something new from a non prog genre, like a new album from a metal band or something. I guess while i may not be a full blown prog metal head, my knowledge of music and metal in general allows me to understand elements of prog metal, that perhaps a non metal fan might not be able to see.

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. I love the diverse community here that prog attracts; it seems like it really grabs people of many different tastes.

With music, I've mostly gone through several phases. I've had a big punk phase, a big metal and "classic rock" phase, and now a prog phase. Eventually I'll probably dig up some of the stuff I listened to years ago and see if I get anything new out of it. I tend to be more open to other people's tastes in music rather than go OMGZ U SUCK0RZ PROG R TEH BESTEST! IMO each genre is geared toward a certain audience. I just tend to find prog to be more....sophisticated and refined for lack of a better word. Even with my prog influence, I'd still say I subscribe to aspects of the Nirvana school of musical thought as well, especially the parts on playing loud, rocking out, and developing basic song structure instead of mathmatically planning everything out. Overall I think that the point of music isn't necessarily just complexity, but 'progressing' forward and setting new boundaries.

Never even heard them. i have no idea if I'll like them or not. I'm open minded enough to at least listen to them before deciding if I like 'em or not.

I agree with that. That's exactly my philosophy with CoAM

Hamish, I posted an Everygrey Youb00b video on the page before... watch it at your peril. I've warned you in advance. But bear in mind they have better stuff... but better being still crap.
