At least my county, Dekalb, in the metro Atlanta is relatively free of it.

Huh, I didn't know Brian lived in my corner of the world. Georgia is still firmly entranced by that anti-intellectual movement that hit after 9/11. No matter how many times you show them facts, they still support Bush. If I end up going back to Georgia to live after I get out of college I'll feel like Klinger at the end of MASH.

Fox News in sirius radio:

Karl Rove penned a letter to Barack Obama giving him advise on how he should handle Hillary Clinton. Should Obama follow "The Architect's" advice or should he be wary of ulterior motives? Political strategist, Hank Sheinkopf, will offer his 2 cents.

Dick Brennan, Chief Political Correspondent for Fox 5 NY, will explain whether or not Rudy expensing a chauffer for his mistress (now wife) while he was mayor of New York City is a common practice in The Big Apple.

The 2008 Presidential race is heating up. Once thought of as sure things in Iowa, Gov. Mitt Romney and Senator Hillary Clinton have found themselves struggling for Iowa’s top spot in their respective parties. Brian and The Judge will provide analysis from all of the most recent poll

Well I heard this news in FoxNews in my satellite radio..well in case you don’t have a satellite radio you can check it out in http://www.sirius.com/freeradio

many thanks!

Here's a gem that came today from a Senator. Jeff Sessions of Alabama said:

"“The civil libertarians among us would rather defend the constitution than protect our nation’s security.”

Well done, Jeff. Well done indeed. This man needs to have his foot thrust so far down his throat he could sodomize himself with his big toe.

^I'm actually quite pleased with the Republican's attempts to alienate Libertarians at this point (a decent chunk of their support in the past)...the more pissed the Libertarians get, the less likely they will be to get swindled by the wedge-machine again.

on a different note: I can see that you're a bit of a lefty, Slart...I'm curious as to who you think is the strongest Democrat candidate so far.  I kinda like Edwards, but I'm becoming more and more impressed with...Ron Paul (!) from the other side (there's a strange turn).

People seem to be starstruck by Ron Paul. The man is insane; he's just insane in that likable Ross Perot way. His views on homosexuality and abortion are backwards, and he really wants America to revert to its isolationist stance, which is utterly impossible in this day and age. I agree he's the best and certainly the most appealing Republican candidate, but he isn't the Godsend some see him as.

_popupControl(); How is he the best and most appealing if he's insane?

Have you seen the other Republican candidates? Guiliani milks 9/11, Thompson sounds like Reagan on his deathbed, Romney is a robot (plus people keep making a fuss over his religion), and the rest get no attention. Paul, like Peort before him, is charismatic and has a way of only highlighting some issues that most Americans will agree on (i.e. Iraq and the War on Terror) while hiding others (strict anti-alien, abortion, and gay marriage. I want him to be the Republican candidate because he has the best ideas out of any of them, but Obama or Clinton would get my vote.

PS, why do all your posts say "_popupControl();"

I don't think he's isolationist at all....he wants to open up more trade routes including Cuba; his main beef is with the war: in order for his small government, low-tax strategy to work, we can't go spending a ton of money on stupid wars and intervention.  I don't like his view on homosexuality but I can live with his abortion stance.  This is a given in the political realm because seldom are there candidates I agree with on everything.

Huckabee?  He's all I've been hearing about lately.  I thought one of the polls even had him leading in Iowa.

Funny, I figured McCain would be leading all the polls.
Well, at least I hope so. He is one of the very few Republicans I like, the other being Guiliani...

_popupControl(); People keep asking me about the popupControl... it's my anti-virus software preventing PA pop-ups, sorry.

Paul has very little understanding of the ways modern economy works. That makes hin un-electable. I think it will be between Guiliani, Romney and maybe Huchabee.

If the Dems nominate either Obama or Hillary, it will be rather a strategic move to gather more black and women/liberal votes at the next election

_popupControl(); McCain missed his chance in 2000. I think it's too late for him now. He's a nice guy though.
Guiliani is a do-er. THe way he cleaned NYC, he won most Democratic votes for his secon term. It's a pity he couldnt run in 2000 for the Senate seat. It would have given a better feel of what he is and where he stands.

People are a little sick of McCain, myself included. He was interesting until he started reneging on past beliefs in order to pander to the religious right.

Agreed.  He's doing a bit better in the polls now, but it's too little to late for him to compete with Giuliani, Romney, et. al.  The political junkie in me is starting to get excited for the new year, it is more wide open for both sides than anything I've ever experienced, can't wait to see who survives!

I used to like McCain. He's a traitor now, bending to the will of the radical Republicans and Bush. I hope he doesn't get anything.
