Succession (Season 3)
7/10
The family Roy continue the backstabbing family antics that are caricatures of one infamous first family bent on grabbing power at any costs (care to guess which first family?).

Not sure which season this is, but there are 7 episodes. Robson Green is quite exceptional in his portrayal of a 1950's police inspector wrestling with some terrible demons in his past. A lot of people will have this pegged as a gentle police drama set in rural England during the 50's but it's much more than that. Deals with England's terrible attitude (and laws) towards Homosexuality while even touching on the horrible experiences many suffered in Japanese POW camps (think Deer Hunter and you are not far off the mark) . Under the radar British drama at it's best. 9/10
One of my favorites.

I think, as it's based on a game, the writers were trying weave parts of that into the story and it shows as it jumps from scene to scene rather like cut scenes in a game - with the odd bit of action in between (the gameplay). Henry Cavill really doesn't has to try too hard either - his main bit of dialogue is "Hmmm", which is used a lot. Good monsters though.

Loved season 1....great fun....with monsters and all...just starting season  2.

Just finished Season 3 of Succession. Not quite on the same level as the first 2 seasons, I found the dialogue starting to grate after a while and same things keep happening over and over - 6/10 for Season 3

Oops, it was Season 3 we watched, and I would agree that the dialogue and real intrigue was lacking from previous seasons otherwise I would have given it an 8 or higher. They will need to step it up in Season 4 if they want to hold this viewer.

obviously doesn't tally with my feelings at all as I gave it 10/10 lol. I haven't seen anything better this year although The Great S2 may challenge it.
The characters (Succession) are just so good and the story arch is still there. Might need one more season perhaps but the basic point is that Cox's character is the c**t to end all c**ts and he's not going quietly!

You Season 3 (Netflix)

Disappointingly lacking in the 'fun' of season 2 . Too many episodes to not get very far in the end imo. 6/10

The Tourist 2021 6 episodes

BBC drama starring Jamie Dornan (The Fall) . Set mostly in the Australian outback , a man has a 'set to' with a large truck and wakes up in hospital with amnesia. Quite a 'fun' watch , very dark humour but never funny and even quite brutal at times. 7/10

Dexter: New Blood 2021 10 episodes

So what did people think?! A crock of sh*t?!?  I was very surprised when this was brought back, really it had run its course even before the end of the last series. However the 'idea' was always interesting if not entirely convincing. With this sequel/re-boot, I saw the ending coming an absolute mile off. Predictable as the day is long. Overall a lot less than meets the eye and never remotely believable whatsoever but that said I enjoy the dark humour. 8/10 (because TV drams doesn't need to be 'real' to be fun)

Just finished Flack with Anna Paquin. It was pretty good. Edgy comedy about a celebrity PR agent.

Around The World In 80 Days - 2021 8 Episodes

An international co-production involving about 5 countries, starring David Tennant as Phileas Fogg . It's a long time since I read the book at school so I've no idea how close it sticks to the original Jules Verne novel. A lot of fun to watch and also emotionally involving with a few well made comments about racial issues, so it's not just about pretty locations . 8/10

I enjoyed it... old-school high adventure isn't always done well.   Better than the All Creatures season 2, I thought.   Should be on again tonight.

Hi,

I picked up the SHERLOCK HOLMES shows with PETER CUSHING in the title role, and it was very enjoyable, although you could tell that it was televised rather cheaply and had to rely on some acting to make it work. Still fine and by the last of the shows, PC was excellent, and you could tell that he was really into it!

Archive 81 2022 8 episodes

I binged this all yesterday to get the most out of it (in theory). A man is tasked with restoring old video tapes for a slightly 'shady' and very secretive character . The problem is, though, he has to do this this in a remote location as the video tapes cannot be moved. OK you may think run a mile but he is well paid for this so takes the bait.
I liked the fact that it didn't head exactly in the direction I expected . However it could have been a lot creepier and in the end lacked the desired impact. High production values as you would expect from Netflix and mostly very enjoyable if you don't have too high expectations. 7/10

^ Thanks for that summary @richardh. This show is on my radar of things to watch.

Finished Season 6 of The Expanse last night. Pretty good for a finale, and the whole thing was an excellent watch, though I did read that there is a very remote possibility of a further series - here's hoping. 7/10 for Season 6, 9/10 overall.

^ thanks, I had almost forgotten I finished the Expanse last Friday. Was strange to finish on episode 6 (apparently they ran out of money and had to cut back the episodes) and also what was that story strand with the children and creatures on a planet all about?! Puzzling to say the least. Yep I would go with those ratings as well.

I've not read all The Expanse books, only the first. But I've dicovered that according to the books Laconia is slowly being infected with the protomolecule and is important in the future. Maybe because they ran out of cash, that story element couldn't continue.
