Dream Theater doesn't seem to mind about that kind of thing though, being that their 20th anniversary would be next year and they've already celebrated it

Does that mean that Dream Theater counted their Majestic years towards the 20 years for their anniversary?

Another topic...Rush was not voted to be in the RNRHOF...again. Not that it matters. It just pisses me off that Madonna is in there and she isn't even Rock.

AllMusic shows that DT was formed in 1986, but their first release was 1989.  The bio on AllMusic says that they were Majesty in 1986, and changed their name to Dream Theater in 1987 when original vocalist Chris Collins was replaced with Dominici.

That used to bother me a lot until I actually visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a couple of years ago. It was kind of a joke.  I wouldn't consider half of what they have there to be worthy of inclusion in my Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Now, I am kind of glad in a way that they aren't there.

heads, I request your help.

At a non-music based forum I used to frequent, someone posted this:

Quote So Ive been on this T&S kick recently...

Many similarities have occurred to me recently, and my curiosity is piqued... in a way that cant be satisfied by "ask.com"

So *smacks gums while saying "so"*

Tegan & Sara do this song: The Con

And I cant hear less than at least 30 RUSH influences in the structure and performance of the song... its almost like Geddy Lee wrote and partially performed this song himself, yet he is not credited anywhere?

Listen without looking RUSH fans... its like this came straight off the Time Stands Still album?

PS - Give me some insight on the accents... how does Geddy Lee's pronunciation of long Is as ois translate from BoB & Dug's -oots and -ehs?

inquiring minds want to know

What do you think?

Logan, I just listened to that song and the person who posted that in criminally insane . That sounds nothing like Rush, maybe they think Rush is actually The Polyphonic Spree or something

hope that helps

even if it was a very delayed response

Agreed. The voice is similar to early Geddy Lee vocals, but that is as far as Rush-like it gets.

I got the Snakes & Arrows Live Blu-Ray yesterday, quite a good package.

Concert footage is gorgeous and the video is well directed. Good views of the band playing their instruments and FULL HD DTS SOUND....

Highly recommended.

I've been meaning to run out and get that. Don't have a Blu-Ray player, but I really want the DVD anyways. Should bring back good memories

I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with this or have heard this before, but the jazz rock band The Bad Plus has done a cover of Tom Sawyer.  Here is a YouTube link to them playing a portion of it.  Enjoy.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtdNtU9gAj0&feature=related

I've been listening to a lot of Rush lately and yesterday I realized that Rush might be the only band ever who have released seven at least four-star albums in a row. Seven, people, seven. That's pretty well done. I'm talking about:

2112 ****½
A Farewell to Kings *****
Hemispheres *****
Permanent Waves *****
Moving Pictures *****
Signals ****½
Grace Under Pressure ****

There are many PA users who don't like Rush, but they consider Caress of Steel to be excellent, so might that make 8?

^^I don't think I can put it on my list. It has some good bits but still I consider it Rush's seventeenth or eighteenth best work Embarrassed Listened to it today too, Bastille day is still great.

Caress of Steel was the first Rush CD that I ever bought.  I've loved Bastille Day from the first listen, I still get a laugh out of I Think I'm Going Bald, and I love the mellowness and lyrics of Lakeside Park.  I've always liked Necromancer and Fountain of Lamneth, but they were never favorites of my mine.  I've grown to appreciate them a lot more recently after reading so many non-Rush fans praising these 2 songs.  And I have really enjoyed them the last couple of times that I listened to them.  All that being said, it is probably still closer to my 17th or 18th favorite album from them as well.  But I am a fanboy, so that means that I love it, but not quite as much as I love the others. LOL

just checking as a new poster, to the rush thread...truly one of my all time favorite bands. Probably one of the bands I have listened to the most over the years. I saw them for the first snakes and arrows tour for the first time in a few years and was very impressed as always, 3 man wall of sound. I also must say how much i liked the snakes and arrows albums....anyways there are one of the best ever IMO

I love Rush! I don't own many of their albums but I do know all their songs and they are all great! I've also seen them 3 times in concert. Being from the Toronto area, seeing Rush in their hometown is a religious experienceBig smile

I would imagine that that would be awesome to see them in Toronto, because it certainly is to see them elsewhere.  The first time that I visited Toronto I made my pilgrimage to Anthem Records.  It was closed because I went on the weekend but it was still kind of neat to see the building with the sign on it that said Anthem Records.  I was kind of disappointed in the Hard Rock Cafes there though.  I thought that Rush would have a prominent display there but there was barely anything there.
