I'll throw in mentions for Rainbow Rising and Montrose's debut but overall I'd go for Led Zep II.

^^^ Montrose?? That's a name I've not heard since the early 80's courtesy of Tommy Vance.

My choice would have to be 'Who's Next?' by The Who, although ask me again in six months time, and it would be something different.

It has to be a Led Zep thing for me :

Depending on the time of the week :

Monday : I
Tuesday : II
Wed : III
Thurs : IV
Friday : House of the Holly
Satur : Physical...
Sunday : Presence

Music is the refuge of souls ulcerated by happiness.

I second the votes for Physical Graffiti and Who's Next

I'll also add Houses of the Holy into the conversation.

Blossom Toes - If only for a Moment (1969). A really great hard psych rock album!

This one is really great! almost growling in 1969 Big smile

Another great band is Jericho Jones from Israel

Jericho - Jericho (1972)
also
Jericho Jones (same group as Jericho. Before Jericho Jones they were called The Churchill's) - Junkies Monkeys & Donkeys (1971)
Both are really good!

\m/  Prog Metal? Tongue

From 1968.                                                                                                                                          And a nice prog song

Lucifer's Friend - Lucifer's Friend (1970). Nice Hard Rock. Sounds like a mix of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin

The first Montrose album is a long forgotten classic, good call Alan - also Rainbow Rising (been listening to that today on the way to work as it happens...). Andy - you beat me to 'Who's Next' - absolute blinder (by far my favorite Who album)

A couple more for you:

Not a bad track on this album - Aerosmith really arrived in 1976 with this one, a definite 5 star in my book.

And I cannot believe this one's not been mentioned:

Frequently listed in poll after poll as one of the greatest live hard rock albums ever - and with good reason

Clap Completely forgot about Aerosmith. Toys in the Attic is also worthy of mention.

^^^ Good call, Jim & Tarquin. Aerosmith made some great albums in the 70's. I really like 'Draw the Line' and 'Rock in a hard place' too.

Oh yes - if only for the stream of innuendo that is '10 inch record'

The 'Live Bootleg' album's a frequent visitor to my CD player as well - seriously raw & Aerosmith at their peak

Not forgotten by me! (although I try to keep the cover hidden as much as possible).

Talking of live albums, UFO's "Strangers in the Night" is another classic.

Ah - Strangers In The Night, yet another good call (and as you say, a somewhat less dodgy album cover than Montrose's "hello boys")

^ If we are considering live albums......then I will have to choose UFO-Strangers In the Night. These are some of the best songs compiled live I can think of in the Hard Rock category.
Michael Schenker made UFO what it was back then....

Possibly the worst album cover ever?

Pretty safe to say this is the one of the best live rock albums ever and captured the band at the high point of their career. Just cooks from start to finish and I've never heard another power trio quite like them...so very unique.

My favorite's got to be an often overlooked rock and roll gem Cosmo's Factory by CCR

No question for me: Deep Purple in Rock.

Although an honourable mention must go to Lucifer's Friend's first album (see above). To my mind this beats both LZ and Sabbath.
