Wait a minute E. Did you not see my post? I like Drama. And you and I have had more than a few discussions about Fisless Marillion.  I am also a fan of Trevor Horn. He is very creative, and has been involved with many outstanding projects. Steve Hogarth does not impress me as having the same kind of talent.

I remember waiting with baited breath to hear Drama and I was left in a state of wanting after the first hearing. Ya, I like the album. The worst part about Drama was the tour. It was awful. Trevor Horn had so much trouble with the other Yes stuff. It was kind of embarrassing to watch and hear really. I felt for him.
It really was Yes' last great album. The end of a era if you will. Magnification gives us hope for better things to come.
Here is my list of Yes albums in order of preference:

Not at all, Drama is a fantasic album. Tempus Fugit and Macheine Messiah are amazing songs.

I was near the front of Hammersmith Odeon on that tour. I remember watching Trevor Horn going red in the face trying to get the high notes on the Anderson songs. I too felt sorry for him.
Drama is an excellent album, as others have said the rhythm section really excels. Listen to Squire and White on "Into the lens".

I like Drama; I love the Squire/White combination that drives it along; "Tempus Fugit" and "Does it Really Happen" are really great; I like the fact that after going into decline (Tormato wasn't so good, and if you have the Rhino remaster of Drama you can hear some of the very poor tracks they started to lay down with Roy T Baker), they re-invented themselves (and not for the last time).
However...without Anderson something is missing; I find the songs don't bear repeated listenings in the way previous Yes material does; and nothing can remove the embarrassment I faced in my final school year as my fellow pupils fell about laughing to the news that my favourite band, Yes, who had produced such classics as Going for the One and Roundabout, were to merge with the bl**dy Buggles......

Let's not forget (Man In A) White Car. There's not a bad song in the album. While certainly not my favorite from Yes, It is far from my least favorite (Big Generator - Ugh!).
A very good collection of songs & I for one really like it. In 1980 it was a refreshing change.

My comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular--simply a general observation.
As for the Horn vs. Hogarth debate, they both possess special talents. Horn's good at what he does, as H is good at what he does.

Drama was a refreshing new direction....GFTO was metallic and shrill at times and Tormato was a poorly conceived continuation and expansion of the GFTO sound. I'm always pleased when I plop Drama on....but it doesn't make the turntable very often.

I tried to listen with fresh ears to Drama some years ago but still came away from it extremely unimpressed. It just doesn't work for me at all and I consider it even worse than the blah Tormato that popped the Yes balloon for me when it was released. Going for the One was the band's swan song for me.

I've always got a laugh out of prog fans who trash "Tormato" for whatever reason. To me, it's classic Yes. "Drama" doesn't fall into that catagory but that's not to say it's a BAD record. Sure, Anderson and Wakeman were gone and The Buggles were kind of an odd choice for replacements but Squire, Howe and White were still blowing me away.

I still feel it's a far better effort than the sub par 'Tormato'. Although some songs are insubstantial- 'Run Through The Light', 'Man In A White Car'- one of them is first class Yes, 'Machine Messiah', and I like 'Into The Lens', 'Does It Really Happen' and 'Tempus Fugit' a lot.

I must admit I haven't heard "Drama" for ages (though I should still have the vinyl record somewhere), but I remember I used to dig quite a lot. "Machine Messiah" cooks indeed, though I can't say I'm crazy about Trevor Horn's vocals.

The second album I ever purchased by Yes. It's a favorite of mine, I love every song barring "Run Through The Light", which is at least 'okay'. Also, the album cover is my favorite Roger Dean Yes cover; to me it somehow goes well with the music.

It doesn't really matter how god it is, for me, Jon Andersson IS yes, in a way. I mean, the lyrics, the high-pitched voice..

Drama is as far as I'm concerned one of the best Yes albums. So what Anderson and wakeman are not there. Amazing album! Steve Howe and Geoff Downes really completed each other! Listen to the album carefully.Trevor Horn does a great job here. Newcomer G. Downes fitted in perfectly. No fillers on this album. I kinda regret the album is rather short (38 minutes long).

 Great album... really... the arrangements are awsome and the abscence of Anderson's vocals (and compositions) gives us the chance to enjoy the creative talent of Chris Squire and Steve Howe... I love Machine Messiah and Tempus Fugit...
