It's great to be reminded that you all link a certain ex-forum member with negativity towards women,it shows that our efforts have not been wasted.
Why dont you start up a poll:
"should we have the right to post pornography, make racist comments or make posts that demean women?"
yes No Sometimes If the "poster" is cool and we really like him. Why not,it's not serious is it?
if you win the admin/mod team could step down. That would be great wouldnt it.?If you lose..........you all have to have "I am a naughty boy" as your sigs...
PS,this is not aimed at the person who started this thread or a comment about the subject matter.

Yeah Tony... it's kind of ironic that Peter should start posting things in this thread.... I thought he'd just sulk off to the safety of the collabs lounge and start throwing his (male) dolls out of his cot...

Not ironic at all, Fandango - Peter saw a genuinely funny thread taking the p+++ out of both sides, and contributed in the same spirit.

and if the Doc had posted exactly the same pic, you'd have been down on him like a tonne of bricks... the set of double standards that I've witnessed in the Collabs lounge recently really makes me want to throw up, quite frankly....

For the thread and the opening post:
For Peter's additions: not as big a laugh since I have seen those along time ago
FANDANGO:
For the thread divergeance: Peter's comments were by no means macho or demeaning since it makes fun of both sexes. And in the opening thread, only males are are aimed at. Self deprecating humour is correct. I probably would've found this not quite as funny , if it had been posted by a woman wanting to hurt men, by this. Even if our BaldAngels or any other woman on this forum had posted this , it would've been for laughs.
The Doc would've never posted something making fun of men, and pointing at their flaws/shortcomings from a woman's glance , even with humour.
He would've posted something more like your remote control pic (which I do find funny, but very limit as politically correct) or much worse.

Anyway, the Doc had a big mouth, and would've had us believe he was something like this:

The fundamental difference here is the attitude towards humour and political correctness.
I would imagine that few of us appreciate the limiting, humourless, po-faced imposition of crude, generic moral standards on our right to throw around jokes which lampoon either sex. And, as far as I'm concerned, that is correct. To poke gentle, knowing fun at the stereotypes of either sex is amusing to both sexes, PRESUMING that each is aware of their own shortcomings.
The problem with the Doc's posts was that he singularly lacks that sensitivity and awareness. I doubt whether he would ever have posted the cartoon which kick-started this thread as it poked fun at both men and women. His posts would have veered towards the remote control graphic, which, while still a funny cartoon, would have solely been used to denigrate women and would surely have been attached to a vicious comment about women and their place in the world.
Humour comes from seeing the comic all of us, not from targeting what is seen as 'inferior' in others. To say that women have a deficient parallel parking area in the brain is funny because it references a stereotype we all can relate to, just as to say men have a deficiency in targeting the toilet bowl also has humour. However, to say that women are stupid because they may not be able to parallel park is just vitriol and that vitriolic humour is the kind the Doc dealt in. It is when the latter rears its ugly head that polical correctness, however much the aware among us may detest it, becomes necessary. And in the Doc's case the appliance of that kind of moral policing was necessary. Simple as that.
For the Brits I'll give an example. Harry Enfield's wonderful 'Women Know Your Place' sketch was comic genius because it played on the stereotypes of a bygone age while poking fun at stereotypes that are still extant. Bernard Manning's mother-in-law and wife jokes are, by contrast, thinly veiled attacks on a sex he patently hates. The former is funny, the latter the equivalent of jokes about Pakistanis, Indians or Irish. Pathetic.

Too bad we don't have a scanner. The back cover of the New York Gong album "About Time" has a member of the "Husband Liberation Front" on it, dealing out pamphlets about "Husband Liberation". He is covered all over with stickers like "Don't ask 'what can my husband do for me?', ask 'what can I do for my husband?' ", "No more Dish Washing" and the likes. A really funny picture.

Hmmm... I seem to recall posting TWO pics.
So, I'm some sort of homosexual baby now, am I?
I guess you're my enemy, hey Jared?
Hmmm -- your profile doesn't give your age, but you list "masturbating" as one of your hobbies. I seem to be up against a mature, formidable opponent -- dear me!

Interesting that you look at the remote control image that way. I am a woman, and I see that image as something to denigrate men.
