They didn't green light it, in fact Emerson begged Atlantic not to use it.

Begged them? He should have threatened to starve himself or throw himself into the album-cover making machinery or something. He shouldn't have taken no for an answer. All three of those guys are not off the hook. I don't buy the "Atlantic made us do it" argument. There's cowardice in this episode, or criminal neglect or something.

You don't buy it? Well Atlantic were in control, aand despite Emersons efforts it was  to no avail.

Don't accept it if you like..no big deal

As much as an ELP fan that I am, I cannot agree with any of this. All these albums are better than LB, stands to reason!

I actually like that epic, I think its an ok song, but Lake ballads are just TERRIBLE!

Makes WE Can't Dance seem like a joke.

I don't know you guys, I think Love Beach is still my favorite Pablo Cruise album.

I think the jury's out on the music, but definitely the best album title and
cover of all time!

I don't think it is as bad as some of you guys are making out. I agree that the Greg Lake stuff is diabolical, however I think that the 'Canario' adaption is excellent. I love the Rhodes on 'Letters from the front' (the only time I've heard Keith use one). I also think that the Chopin adaption ('Memoirs') is very good.

All in all not a patch on the 70 - 74 period but much better than say 'In the Hot Seat' and as someone else remarked infinitely better than 75% of Wakeman's 30 album output.

Yes, to be fair, there's a lot of rubbish released in the prog dept. that
bites it way worse than Love Beach (Tony Bank's later solo stuff even tops
Wakeman for pure tastelesness, it's like Toto on steroids), and "Canario"
is really good and even "Memoires..." has its moments. The album
(especially the photo and title) just came to symbolize the demise of
progressive music for many of our generation, and certainly did coincide
with the end of that first glorious era. It's like trashing an ex who you
once really loved, because you know what brilliance they're really capable
of. But few artists can go on being radically innovative forever...even Miles
Davis, after officially revolutionizing music about seven different times,
decided in his mellower years to stop rewriting musical history and just
kick ass. I think everything Emerson does has at least some merit.

I never listened to Love Beach. People are basing this album so much that I never dared listening to it. But on the other hand, they do the same with Genesis' Abacab, and I do like that one.

I accept that Atlantic was pressuring him; what I don't accept is that Emerson did everything in his power to keep that cover from appearing. It just seems like he gave up or ceased to care about the band as an entity.

What were "Emerson's efforts"? I'd be interested to know...

Well, it's not as bad as people say. I'm glad I have it.

It beats the crap out of Works 2 or In the Hot Seat, which is by are the worst ELP album. People do judge a book by its cover, and that album's cover doomed it from the start. You could have put Brain Salad Surgery inside and it would have been a critical bomb.

What were they thinking?

I remain convinced it was a joke, like GWAR or Gaye Bykers on Acid or whatever.

Your argument (reprinted above in its entirety) is poorly constructed, and not backed by facts. If it were a thesis paper, you would receive an F.

Ergo, you have not swayed my opinion.

Should we initiate a class action law suit? I'm game.

At least Abacab has a better name than Love Beach.
