I have long felt that Side Two of TFTO ("The Remembering - High the Memory") was a deep cut that was very much under-appreciated. It has some of the best vocals & instrumentals on the entire LP!

Yes - Perpetual Change -The Yes Album
Yes - Southside of the sky -Fragile
Yes - Parallels -Going for the One Genesis - The Lady Lies - And then there were three Genesis - Cul De Sac - Duke Genesis - Lilywhite Lilyth and grand parade of lifeless packaging from Lamb King Crimson - Epitaph from "Court" King Crimson -The entire albums from ITWOP to Discipline ELP - Title track to Trilogy - Trilogy ELP- The Barbarian - First album Jethro Tull - My God - Aqualung Kansas - The Wall, Cheyenne Anthem and Miracles out of Nowhere from Leftoverture The Moody Blues - too many to mention but a few favorites are candle of life, minstrel song, you and me, my song, so deep within you and the actor. Rush - circumstances, entre nous, Jacob's Ladder, Camera Eye, Witch Hunt, Losing It, In the End. With Rush it's difficult to say what the deep tracks are because even the so called lesser known songs are appreciated by the fans. Is YYZ or Xanadu a lesser known song? Maybe only to someone who has only heard their radio songs. Edited by AFlowerKingCrimson - October 07 2023 at 15:18 |

Epitaph and Trilogy deep cuts?? I don't think so bc I see them on Pandora's prog stations all the time! btw, the classic Crimson albums that don't get the credit they deserve are Poseidon and Islands

Pandora probably plays everything though. I don't think they have a dj arbitrarily choosing which ones are good (or popular) and which ones aren't. I've never heard any of those on regular radio (or at least not in a very, very long time). Plus they would be very likely to be played by Sirius XM's deep tracks channel.

It's among King Crimson's three - or at least five most popular, easiest recognized and treasured songs. It's really one of Progressive Rock most iconic and "famous" songs of all time. This single is ranked no. 12 of all time on RYM (and 1. for 1976, when it was released). Epitaph is about as far from a deep cut you can get. |

Absolutely. It's a top five pick for me, and Squire said it was some of his most inspired bass playing.

Pandora is very oddly formulaic in the sense that the more times you frequent their stations, the more of the same tracks you get played to you! For a progger, this is the opposite of what I'm looking for. If Pandora plays ''everything'', it's definitely not prog. And no, they do not have a DJ for that. If you mean Radio Radio, then you get mainstream, and that is certainly not ELP or Crimson. Prog stations tend to play the "standouts" for the most part - I'm sure on that part. I don't know anything about Sirius XM though

"Pictures of a City" on Poseidon. I saw KC perform this live, it was remarkable....Jakko on vocals was very impressive, and Mel Collins, well....
Yeah, I know, "Schizoid Man Part 2," not as good as SM, etc. etc. This was the stage, 26 Sept 2014 in Chicago.... |

RE my choice of Epitaph (I won't quote both posts for the sake of brevity):
Among prog fans no Epitaph isn't a deep cut but then you could say the same about "the great deceiver,""starless" and other King Crimson songs. The op wasn't clear about this but since this song has probably(or coud be) played on the deep tracks channel like I already stated it seemed like fair game to me. The title track to the first KC album and schizoid man are also deep tracks to most classic rock fans and in general but not to prog fans imo. But Epitaph being less known seemed like a better choice to me. Heck, I even talked to a guy old enough to know about KC but never even heard of them. But prog fans know a lot more than just Epitaph trust me. But again I'm going by the general rock audience and not prog fans (If I was doing the latter then I would certainly agree with the gripes about it not being a deep track). When I said "everything" I meant any random song by a prog band and they seem to only play the major prog bands and nothing too obscure (based on what I've seen). Anyway, we all have our opinions on this so really no sense in arguing about it and going around in circles. EODAFAIC.

^No it's not really about different opinions. The thing is, you don't know what a deep cut means, so let me explain: A deep cut is a song that is less widely played and less well-known than other songs on the same album or by the same artist

Different opinions about what a deep cut is. Someone mentioned Cinema by Yes. That won a grammy award for best instrumental so you could argue that isn't a deep cut either for that reason. Anyway, I know very well what a deep cut is. Maybe you don't. I listen to the deep tracks channel on Sirius XM regularly and so I obviously know what kind of things they play (and they play stuff more well known than KC). Also, I have listened to the reguar radio for over 40 years and rarely if ever heard any of the songs on my list on there including Epitaph but it qualifies anyway based on your statement of "less widely played" alone not to mention "played less than well known than the other songs on the album." I'm not going by pandora or internet radio because that's absurd imo. Anyway agree to disagree.
