Somebody just majorly screwed up.  They came back from commercial and instead of playing a metal video during Metal Mania hour they are playing Ben E. King's Save The Last Dance for Me.  WTF? Angry

Quiet Riot's Cum on Feel The Noize     Girls rock yer boys!!!     Kevin DuBrow RIP.

One of the first two records that I owned that didn't feature Elvis Presley.

Now that I think about it I watched Metal Mania a few months ago, and I think that they are playing many of the same videos. LOL

I need to get a life, but as long as I have the place to myself.  Some "progressive" hair metal with Swedish metal band Europe, and The Final Countdown.  Oooh how I used to love this song.  Still pretty sweet.

Really?!

I'd rank it as the band's all-time low... 3 stars for me right now.

I would have given it a three based on my first impression when it first came out (it was my first album by that band).  I couldn't see what all the fuss was about.

After further listening, I found myself genuinely enjoying it and really appreciating the concept, as it were (being able to relate to it as a teacher and all).

I still had problems with "Sleep Together" and "Way Out of Here," which I still consider to be the weakest two songs on the album, but now I'm beginning to get into those more also.

All said, Deadwing is still my favorite by a mile.

FOABP is a fantastic album I think, though I a also think Sleep Together is weak compared to the other songs on there. I do really like Way Out Of Here though. The concept is very interesting too, I agree with you, and for me as a kid it probably is just as interesting as for you being a teacher.

"X-box is a god to me
A finger on the switch
My mother is a bitch
My father gave up ever trying to talk to me"

That line says is incredibly true. As I kid I gamed quite a lot, and this really was the way I started to think of my parents, and my father did almost gave up trying to talk to me. Then my xbox broke and I somehow didn't feel the need to get a new one (instead of that I got myself a guitar)... now the relationship between me and my parents is as good as it could be. But really, when I look back I see how much I was "addicted" to such a stupid gaming device... the thing sort of absorbed me (which sounds pretty creepy, doesn't it?).

Urk. I'm still fairly young, compared to Robert, and I have to admit that the pretense of the lyrics is what's keeping me well off that album... honestly,  a 40-year old whining about how the kidz iz too adddicted to ze komputerzzz is even worse than me writing about life in the ghetto. I just don't think he's realistic, reasonable or remotely profound. It's basically grumpy-old-man material.

Yes, I had a time when I'd spend too long on games... I still spend more time than I reasonably should on games (chances are, I'll just cut that out when I get to uni in a week or two by means of just not bringing my games with me). Nonetheless, Swilson's hysterical, inane exaggeration just comes across as uninformed.

The album isn't only about kids and computers, but also prescription drugs, bipolar disorder, information overload and reliability to sources like the Internet. I think Steven is very right about these things. Boredom is a common thing, which as far as I know always has been a common thing, but that combined with stuff like computer games and TV can lead to some sort of blank mind. People watching TV all day, gaming all day, hanging around in the mall doing nothing, people vandalizing neighborhood because they are bored, it all is very common.

I see this all around me... I'm 17 years old and the majority of people of my age seem to have no ambitions at all, and most of them spend their days by watching TV, talking about the most shallow things, not caring about school and getting drunk now and then. Things like poetry and philosophy are for people who "don't have a life" and people who don't get drunk every weekend also don't have a "life". I don't know how much of this was in earlier generations... but I assume it was less than it now is. Also, the kids all watch MTV. I also watch MTV, but I know almost everything shown there is fake... many kids don't know that.

I think Steven has a good reason to be worried, and of course the album is not pointed towards all kids... but I think he really is right about the majority. You might be able to quit gaming when you think you should, but I know many people have or will have a hard time with that. And I seriously think sometimes gaming can be seen as an addiction.

I'm just a year or so older than you... I simply don't see it the same way. At fifteen or sixteen, I almost did, and I'm pretty much past underestimating other people now. People have turned out good, bad, fascinating, dull, indifferent, driven and yet they've all turned out to be people, who interact, do things, live. I essentially don't see Wilson's nightmare scenario playing out.

(and, for the record, I read and write poetry, can read two dead languages, don't drink often [/I can legally buy alcohol, here], but tend to drink quite heavily when I do and I've never watched MTV...)

(with regard to the lyrics of Fear itself... he uses a lot of different terms, but it basically revolves around 'those pesky kids', and throwing all flavours of supposedly undesirable characteristics into one nightmare stew and hoping people identify themselves as witnesses to this imaginary epidemic)

---

Long and short: I just don't buy it. People are people, I've come to increasingly find myself surprised by how interested people can be.

I'll let you know in 9 months.
Excuse me while I stare at my big screen TV at Girls Girls Girls video.  I think that I am getting more out of this video than I did back in the day of my small 20 inch screen TV.

I'm not 40 yet Wink, hence I'm able to be as irresponsibly naive as I like.
