Oh, that's excellent. Does that mean you think he should be on P.A. for his solo career then? Oh and have you heard Ferdinand Richard's En Avant? It's a very hard album to listen to. |

Like to get anyone's thoughts on Universal Totem Orchestra. I understand that they're an offshoot of a band called Runaway Totem, but that UTO put out better material. I listened to some samples of the latter on mindawn and it was good but not great.

I have one of their albums, I need to listen to it though. That's the story of my life. Edited by James - September 13 2008 at 02:53 |

Ne Zhdali are crazy.
Some of their stuff is excellent, whilst some of it just not bad. I like them a lot though! |

"good but not great" sums up my thoughts exactly; have not felt inclined to play them since the first couple of spins. |

I wasn't that impressed with Runaway Totem, but I'll give UTO a try if I can find any of their stuff - I thought that Runaway Totem had some real potential, but somehow they never quite realised it.

It seems like for me here in the US, their CDs are hard to come by, so I didn't want to pursue it unless someone had glowing things to say about them (although sinkadotentree gave them some glowing reviews). |

maybe i should give them another shot. here is another reasonably positive review. incidentally my opinion has been solely based on their first album, i don't own the new one. have the first track on now, it has a very lush symphonic style to it - italian influence shinning through, methinks.
http://www.progreviews.com/reviews/display.php?rev=uto-ra I usually find brandon's review spot on. |

I've given up on RUNAWAY TOTEM unfortunately. They're down to a duo and their last two cds did little for me.I still think "Tep Zeri" and "Andromeda" are excellent. A friend of mine has "Zed" and he's blown away by it. UNIVERSAL TOTEM ORCHESTRA are a different animal really. Not as metal or spacey. The female vocals are great too.I found the first one hard to get into but grew to really like it.Maybe that prepared me for "The Magus" 'cause it's brilliant. So much to digest on that one.

Just to let you guys know, I've added Die Knödel to our genre.
I don't if they'll be everyone's thing but I really like them. |

Do you know where I can hear more than 30 second samples?
I don't know if this is news, but eMusic has Koenjihyakkei 's album, which surprises me. And I guess gives me very little excuse for not having it yet. Edited by Henry Plainview - September 15 2008 at 01:57 |

I don't know where you can find any 30+ second samples, sorry. I'll try and do some searching. And which Koenjihyakkei album are you referring to? I now have all of them on CD, so I'm a happy man. I shall probably get that DVD next from Wayside. |

Thanks. It's Angherr Shisspa. Why can't these people have something that's easier to spell? Edited by Henry Plainview - September 15 2008 at 04:22 |

It makes it more fun.
I can only remember the titles of a few of their tracks! Angherr Shisspa is arguably their best. It is certainly my favourite but all of their albums are great. |
