Agreed. The old UK weekly music magazine Melody Maker in 76 looked at up and coming US bands which included Mahogany Rush, Meatloaf  and Kansas (plus 8 others ) - Kansas was IMHO the best  (and Meatloaf until the album got played to death- perhaps more for Todd Rundgren's input)

Trout Mask Replica isn't most radio-friendly music around but it's so great to listen it again and again

I saw Eric Burdon singing live 6 or 7 years ago in Budapest and was really pleasantly surprised in how good form he was

Thanks to Leonardo at Moonjune Records, that we have two new releases from the label by Indonesian fusionist Dewa Budjana and  perhaps the best yet from Marbin. Mike Keneally features doing a favourite of mine from Hat, and a couple from Kevin Ayer's Harvest Years boxset - including one which happens to be Mike Oldfield's earliest recordings. Then we have a sample from the latest Mike Oldfield release. Sometimes difficult to track down, found some more French (so-called) neo-swing by Les Doigts De L'Homme. Then there is/are the blues:

Last show before the 4 week Easter break - and good news new hardware has arrived, expected to solve some the transmission problems of late.

Amazon UK were faster they originally stated, so already have the newie double from the master shredder  Mattias (IK) Eklundh - a calling card or cornucopia?, with the varied range of musics offered, make up you mind - but as a musician Mattias continues to impress. Alas another major talent has died this week this in the form of Yes's original guitarist Peter Banks - rightly called one of prog's architects by Danny Baker - so a goodly slug of Flash with Banks being ever so flash (as I remember seeing him fronting Flash at Loughborough Uni circa 1974). Managed to get a sample from the forthcoming Spock's Beard album, but having problems supporting Prog Archives already (nonsensically) naming this album a "masterpiece".  And amongst the usual mix, something from the new Wayne Shorter album:

Easter break had mechasing after a lot of Norwegian bands, that had either been around for quite sometime (but alas ignored by yours truly) or fresh on the scene. In particular, I'm halfway through obtaining some albums by Motorpsycho - and really hooked on the modern  their new album, Still Life With Eggplant. So three quarters of the show is devoted to Norwegian music in numerous forms - including music I've played before. In that non-Scandanavian half hour something from friend of the show, Kimara Sajn new and wonderful album, ditto Niacin, Celtic folk take on Pink Floyd (does it or doesn't this work?) and at last, Easy Star dub/reggae interpretation of Michael Jackson Thriller. Enjoy

Still on this Norwegian kick - but apologies about mispronouncation of artists names last week, and I'm reducing the risk of such cock-ups this Thursday evening with more English names. Nevertheless, we continue delving into Motorpsycho's excellent music, as too Grand General and Hedwig Mollestad. Then there are new recordings from The Muffins, The Naked Truth. Quercus (who appears to have been recorded 6-7 years ago....and only released recently on ECM). And thanks to a visit by Mark ,one of my regular listeners  last Friday (great lunch and long chat in the Swan In The Rushes - a traditional pub recommended to all), I have been introduced a recent project by Tool's Maynard James Keenan, Puscifer, (you must check the rather evil video of Bohemian Rhapsody on the web by the band- aurally very similar to the original Queen version, pictorially some what different....), and the Brit math rockers Ed Wood Jr.
