Another rare Mellow CD record from 1972. Always like it very much. Could have been a gem with a better production. |

One other thing to factor in your decision--sound. These sets are remastered, compressed and brickwalled to optimize for listening as MP3s with earbuds. If you prefer a vinyl type sound, these are not the editions for you. (I'm not saying one is inherently better than the other, but if you know what you like, you should make an informed choice.)

Hey Todd, thanks for that!
Well, I DO buy a lot of vinyl albums, and I know exactly what you mean...But I don't think I have a good (or modern!) enough stereo that would allow me to pick up too many noticeable differences. I'm sure others like yourself have much better equipment than I do that makes such negative (ahem) `improvements' stand out more! But NOTHING sounds better to me than the warmth and fullness of a vinyl LP. Almost all the time these days, I hold off on buying an album if I know there's a chance it might get a vinyl release. I don't mind paying the extra money for heavier shipping. I think I looked on those Gli Anni 70's box-sets as a more affordable way to `fill a few gaps' in my collection, as well as picking up some surprising additions I never would have encountered before. ![]() |

Vinyl is to the sound what black is to the tuxedo.

^^ I envy you guys who collect the vinyl (and even CDs) as I shiver at the thought of all those collections I have lost or let go through the years, due to many moves, calamities, compromises with the wife (
![]() There is nothing like looking over the album jacket while listening to the artist, not to mention that first delicate moment of laying the needle down on the vinyl.
Most of my collection now is 90% MP3 and 10% CD.

Jim, please, tell us more... what calamity happened to you? and then, above all, why did you do a compromise with your wife? what kind of compromise? were you in a way under threat by her? how can we prevent such marital negative effects? |

Most of it all is attributed to being a naïve stupid youth and going through many different phases. Actually some of the moves were part of the calamity (seemed to be the best word). On one move in the 80’s, the movers lost one box of vinyl albums, which the reimbursement was a joke. So a few years later during another move, I decided to carry the albums myself in the pickup truck. Once our destination was reached, I discovered a rope had broken and a couple of boxes were missing, one of them were more vinyl records. So somewhere on the Pennsylvania Turnpike albums must have been strewn all over the highway or became part of the woods and is now become mulch. Anyone who has traveled that highway knows about the infamous potholes in the road, so that must have been what happened. That left about one box of vinyls left and the beginning of Cassettes and CD collection. The last box of vinyl records is where the wife compromise comes into play (sorry no favors being withheld stories). Being only a couple of years in marriage, I traveled out of town quite a bit for work and the wife was left to manage the home nest (Pierre should like the nest reference), which was not large in those days so space was at a premium. So when out of town, she said she wanted to get rid of a few things for more space and I no longer had my record player by then, she wanted to get rid of the last box of vinyl records, being a young dumb husband, I said yes since I was more into classical music at that time and did not think vinyl would be worth much anymore. A regret that still haunts me... One final calamity involved part of the CD collection after yet another move. It seems someone mis-labeled the contents of one of the boxes and later we donated it to charity thinking it was something else. So hopefully somebody is enjoying those CDs. I still suspect her to this day on that box labeling, I think she is jealous of my music. Anyway, everything is triple backed up digitally now on separate hard drives, even what CDs I do have now have been converted. |

Sad sorry, Jim. Sometimes, the relationship between the listener and his music is so intense that it can cause jealousyI. I'm sure it's already happened to many, but they never had the courage to talk about it ... Take care. Things change. It is the only true law of life.

^ No worries, that has been many years ago and we are still together and all is well. I just never started back into vinyl. I still give her a hard time about it though...
![]() Oh, I have been listening to that instrumental band that Andrea mentioned on his RPI history thread, Glincolti. I am liking it, wondered if anyone else has given them a listen. Sorry, don't have the link handy. Edited by AEProgman - December 05 2012 at 15:15 |

Hey AEP! Sorry to hear about all your music woes. Finding a compromise in a relationship is just a constant struggle, and I'm still trying to get things to balance out. I've been a collector of prog LP's/CD's for almost 25 years now, and a collector of comic books for almost 30 years, and my poor partner of 8 years Rose has been so understanding and patient with it, even though my stuff takes up a lot of room. We've never struggled for anything, but I'd be the first to admit I spend far too much on my hobbies. So I'm in the process of cutting right back now, working out what are the essentials and what I don't really need. Rose has been through a terrible last two years with her sick mother, and her father with Alzheimers who passed away a week ago. Our relationship has been splintering during those two years, but now more than ever I need to do what I can to ensure things are as comfortable as possible for her. I should add, she's Italian, and once in a while I've asked her to translate an RPI album lyrics, and she'll often come back with `I can tell you what it means, but it doesn't make any sense!' ![]() On to happier things, I've been very much enjoying that Glincolti band too! Lots of variety, snappy playing and talented musicians! OK, so they try to cover every genre it seems, but that must be `youthful ambition'! I got onto a friend about them straight away too, and he's also impressed! Glad you're enjoying them! Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - December 05 2012 at 18:59 |

ABB, we have watched a family member suffer with ruthless disease. Understand.
Comic books, nice any old editions of Mad Magazine, as my avatar suggests? I too had a hard time classifying Glicolti as they went all over in styles. That Duck sure has a nice place :) |

I think that the purpose of Glinctoli was to be unclassifiable. In some ways this band reminds me of the album of "LA SECONDA GENESI", a 1972 band looking into many directions.

I've downloaded it too and gave it one spin. I can't say it's not good, the musicians are really great and it works pretty well. I wouldn't say I noticed any RPI characteristics, it's mainly fusion kind of prog.

Yep, I thought exactly like you Sagi, great prog rock played by a bunch of talented ITALIAN musicains, but hardly RPI!
It's quite an addictive album, I think those guys have a promising future! Pierre, I'll give a listen to those sounds samples when I get home from work! ![]() |

I never liked the word "Fusion". Each time I hear it, I think of the film : The Fly, the fusion of Brendel with the Fly. You know the result.
![]() The most beautiful thing I read on RPI is and will always be this : "So it's an established fact that in Italy during the period between 1971-1974, a music movement existed where bands would challenge each other to see who could be the most imaginative, who could create the album for the ages. They were all painters and sculptors just as in Renaissance Italy." -Tom Hayes/Gnosis

To lovers of paintings, I'd like to recommend this underrated album (Not RPI but on P.A.) : Laser Pace - Granfalloon (1973), an illegitimate wedding between King Crimson, J.A and Sly and the Family stone, with the blessing of the high priestess Maureen Ohara.
