I can see this not ending well.

Reminds me of a time our neighbour gave us a hand with a bit of garden clearance; all we asked him to do was strip the tree branches of the minor growths using a billhook - then we saw him using it by swinging it toward his leg...

"tell you what Les, I'll do that - see if Vicky needs a hand with the bonfire" (she didn't, but I couldn't watch him - it was like the opening scene from 'Casualty' )

The problem with chainsaw cuts is they throw a quarter inch of meat into space. They usually cut to the bone and sometimes bounce back for a second cut running parallel to the first.

Many, many congratulations Dean, that's wonderful news! That's a great picture, and I'm very pleased for Alex... I hope she'll have a very fulfilled and contented life; she looks lovely..

Great photos Dean and congrats to your whole family.

Summer is fading.  The Evening Primrose is now very tall and the watermelon is luscious and sweet.  The first cool snap has arrived and the Fair starts later this week.  We'll have a week or two of autumn and then be buried under six feet of snow for six months.  Paradise.

The house across the road from us had their firework party last night. They must have bought some small bombs off the local TA unit - it sounded like Armageddon last night and this morning our road (and our car) is littered with bits of paper, plastic and sticks. God only knows what was in their fireworks but I think it would have been quieter if they're hired Motorhead to play in their garden.

Oh no, where am I going to get my Betamax videos from now?

I still remember the crushing disappointment when I bought a Kate Bush (VHS) video in anticipation of my parents buying a video player and they came back with a Betamax machine because the guy in the shop told them it was better quality. Unhappy

LOL - I keep looking at the stack of VHS tapes I've got and wonder what I'm going to play them on!

"Would you like that gift-wrapped?"

Following on from the successful construction of an outdoor eating-area over summer, more DIYing is in progress at Darq Towers to add to the existing three sheds that we have (four if you count the greenhouse). My incredible plan was to construct the base weekend afore last (which happened as planned), and assemble the building last weekend. Alas, as darkness fell on Sunday evening we were running around with torches and bits of string trying to secure a tarp over the half-complete structure:

The reason for building 'yet-another-shed' was somewhat forced upon us as daughter and her husband are having to move out of their rented Chiswick house (...a say house, it was actually a granny-annex to the neighbouring house that was split-off as a 1-up 2-down shoe box), so they are moving in with us while they find an elsewhere to live. [Oh, deep joy ... genuine from Mrs Darq, more sarcastic from yours' truly).

Fearing that this could become a somewhat one-sided arrangement with no fixed cut-off date, I quipped: "I'll just stick another shed in the garden and you can stay in that" ... I suspect I was the only one who didn't think I was joking... at least until I started leafing through the Wickes catalogue and drawing sketches for the construction of a base for it to stand-upon. "I'm not sleeping in a shed!" protested the daughter. "Why should you?" I smirked, "You still have a bedroom upstairs, what we don't have is anywhere to store all the crap belongings you've accumulated since moving out." So enthusiasm for acquiring 'yet-another-shed' picked up a little momentum, except with Mrs Darq, who was still a tad reluctant, "Not another shed." ... "Nah, I was thinking about a summerhouse, for doing arty things in instead of cluttering the house with easels, paints, weaving looms and the like." ... "Will it have electricity" ... "Yup".... "and a woodburning stove?" ... "Yup." Sold to the lady with the silly grin! Big smile

The only problem now is they are moving back-in next Saturday Unhappy

My stack of VHS tapes is currently in the garage awaiting transfer to the local dump. Even charity shops can't sell them now. I can't see a nostalgic return to "good old" VHS videos somehow.

I bought a combo VHS/DVD recorder about 10 years ago and used that to transfer all the stuff on tape I wanted to keep.
Of course, I still have the tapes. Confused

I was stopped at a red light yesterday and witnessed a homeless person unable to take money from someone because he was busy talking on his cell phone. Wacko

For the first time, I'm slightly apprehensive about travelling to work on the Tube tomorrow.

I still have a combo VHS/DVD connected to the TV in my den but I haven't watched a movie on VHS for years.
I have four to five hundred tapes boxed up in the garage that will eventually go to the dump.

I've just got round to transferring our wedding video to DVD - after 25 years. Well, we put off doing it for so long because a lot of people in the video are sadly no longer with us. Still, nice to see some old faces.
