Matt, you should listen to Kevin Drumm's s/t, it's quite strange. It's almost more "accessible" than Sheer Hellish Miasma, because while on SHM it seems like he's trying to punish the listener, on the s/t he's just punishing his guitar. It's an odd contrast of noise and silences.

That sounds interesting, it's also nice that your opinion of SHM is similar to mine. Tongue

And Henry, if you do really want to get Trout Mask Replica, it's a good album but I think it's too long, and if you aren't up for Beefheart's absurd humor it's not a very fun album to listen to.

Well I understand that SHM wouldn't be so monolithic if it didn't drone so much, and I like the harshness of the sounds, it just sounds sometimes like Kevin made this awesome machine and then just left it plugged in for a few minutes without touching it. I was going to say something about how if you played it at a store it wouldn't clear it out like SHM, but I think the disjointedness of it would unsettle people more, it would be like the antennae suddenly came under alien attack. I have no idea how he managed to get those sounds out of a guitar with no overdubs.

Yeah, I don't like absurd humor very much, the dada absurdism and other stuff actually pisses me off because it's so hard to convince people that serious avant-garde work isn't just a nonsensical joke, and then some people deliberately create nonsense just to screw with people. And musically the songs from it on Youtube didn't grab me enough to make me really want to buy it. I downloaded Lick my Decals Off, Baby, since it's OOP, but I forgot to ever finish listening to it. :P

I only ended up buying TMR because I was so surprised to see it in a store around here, I wasn't too impressed by the samples either. The Residents did the whole absurd thing better, I think.

Really, I was leaving (on my last PA sweep) and you came back.

Why I keep myself up for no reason I still don't know!

No, you can text chat.

But be prepared for "I'm a horny 21 yr old male from USA" and/or "asl plz"?

Ya, f**k that. But every once in a while, you'll meet a legit human being.
