Jumping back in, I watched his press conference, and was willing to give him a chance. Then he changed his story of the previous day. Even though he tried to redirect by confessing to appearing in blackface as Michael Jackson at a dance contest that year (since doubtless that would soon be dredged up), the truth is the truth and really simple to stick to. Changing the story makes me feel like something is probably fishy.

Well if he is lying, thats not good and maybe he should resign, I don't know.
But my problem with this and similar situations is that it trivializes racism down to trying to not offend each other. In other words not being a racist means you don't use the 'n word' and you don't use words like 'injun' or jap' etc.
It trivializes more important issues such as some people have a hard time finding a job, getting a promotion, moving into a nice neighborhood, getting a bank loan or they can't even drive down the street without getting pulled over and checked out.
I've lived in sophisticated big cities across the US where everyone knows the right words to say and no one gets offended, but entire minority neighborhoods are wiped out and displaced and replaced with trendy yuppie neighborhoods with latte joints with wifi etc. and none of these supposedly polite majority folks even notice that this even happened.

I understand completely, I lived in Nashville for 9 years, after living in the West most of my life.
It is important, however, not to use certain words as well, words are extremely powerful things. As are truth and accountability. Images, too, carry an immense amount of power depending on how they are used.
There is a huge amount of people not taking responsibility for their actions, always has been, but not as blatantly as in recent memory. And I think we do have to hold those in public office to a higher standard, despite their feet of clay.

I corrected my post to make it clear that cities who have no problem displacing families to make room for rich yuppies and their decafe latte cafes with wifi are not confined to any particular locale.
I've lived on the west coast too, and quite possibly because of the high cost of rent and real estate in those areas, I have witnessed many neighborhoods wiped out and displaced and no one uttered a word, not even the 'liberal' local news media. Now compare that issue to someone wearing blackface long ago, where are our priorities. What the guy did was wrong of course, but there is far worse racially oriented matters going on in our world.

I also understand this. I'm a fifth generation native Californian and am saddened by what has happened there as well, on so many levels.
That being said, of course, there are many worse things. But this is one thing that is also current and what he did about it in the present is pretty despicable, trying to redirect it instead of just acknowledging and apologizing. It may be small in the larger picture, but it is also a way of seeing what is happening on a grand scale.

| I wonder if she ever wore 'blackface', or 'red face' for that matter. All of this is just more distraction and trivial nonsense. Here are some things that matter: Fair taxation, those who get the most use out of our infrastructure should pay their fair share for it. Our infrastructure provides the means for people to make money, those who utilize it the most should pay the most. Clean air and water Affordable health care Everyone should have the right to vote, in other words, majority and minority voting districts should have enough voting machines so that everyone has the right to vote. Recently some minority dominated voting districts have had their number of voting machines reduced, this is basically taking away people's voting rights. There's more, but these four are a good start.

If I remember correctly it was you who stated that she never used it to advance her career in any way. Just wondering if you considered it as "just more distraction and trivial nonsense" had Trump or Bush done this.

You are mixed up again, go through this thread, I have never said a word about Warren. There are a couple other people in this thread who are her enthusiastic supporters, I am not one of them. Please do not say things about me that are not true, otherwise show me the post where I said these things, i am not a Warren supporter, or anyone's supporter at this point. I'm with holding any endorsements until I know more about all the candidates.

This does get tiresome. Earlier you claimed that someone in this thread wanted trump impeached, you never produced evidence for that either. After you brought it up, one site member said they favored impeachment, but when you first brought it up, no one had ever said that. Please let people speak for themselves and do not speak for them, it totally derails the conversation when you do that, plus its rude as hell.

You made me work hard... this is just one explicit impeachment call not to mention implicit ones http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=110190&KW=impeach&PID=5578662#5578662
And I never said you've said it, so how have I put words in your mouth?

Okay, you are right, one person did call for his impeachment, I suppose we are even now.
Now getting back on subject. Ancient photos of blackface and bickering about DNA claims are how politicians attack each other, but none of this helps us regular folks. We need affordable health care, and much more.

By the way, you're initial post implied that more than one person had called for his impeachment. This was not true as you found only one who did. Your quote: I would really hate to spoil some of you guys' sweet dreams in anticipation of Trump's impeachment on grounds of high treason but do you realize that if Mueller has a tiny shred of evidence of Trump being in cahoots with the Russians he must alert the proper authorities immediately upon learning such fact? Not wait for a good moment to release it but do it right away since potential treason in the highest executive office presents immense danger to the country and delaying the announcement. "Guys' " is plural, so your initial quote is still somewhat amiss unless you find more people who said this.

So affordable healthcare is more important than Warren's Indian heritage, that's fine. Is it more important than Trump not releasing his tax returns? Did you change your mind?

You are a spin master. I usually ignore it as it really does get tiresome. But this time I wanted to see how far you go. You would do anything to change the subject, wouldn't you?
Now getting back to it..... In 2012, Elizabeth Warren couldn’t ‘recall’ Native American claim
If Trump claimed Cherokee heritage would you consider it "distraction and trivial nonsense?"

Yes. Tax returns are far more important. If they show that he is reporting income from foreign sources that he didn't report on his presidential income statement then it is a major violation and could show him to be compromised. If he is filing returns that are materially inaccurate or fraudulent then obviously he would have no business being on the outside of a cage.
Trump tells the truth about as often as hell freezes over and the Detroit Lions win the Super Bowl, so if we were to lie about having Cherokee heritage I would just consider it business as usual.
As far as Elizabeth Warren goes, my father told me a story that our family are direct descendants of American revolutionaries. I think that my grandmother was a Daughter of the American Revolution, which maybe makes me a Son of the American Revolution. I personally have no proof of this. It is a story that has passed down in my family. Granted, I haven't ever used this story to my advantage, but it is a family story. I personally don't have a problem with her claiming Indian heritage because her DNA test proved that it was probably true. It is trivial nonsense. Her politics are too far left for my tastes, but her "not recalling" is far less offensive to me than Trump's blatant racism with his name calling of her.
