I think is time to move the thread into general discussions and eventually assimilate it into the christian thread, the atheist thread and the libertarian thread.

The giant letter Q alone, fine.
The bright pink colour alone, fine.

Epignosis certainly wouldn't attend. Unless it was Pink Floyd, that would be justified.

I would not attend because I probably could not afford it.

And I don't care about Pink Floyd much, sorry.

Because you spend more time thinking about gay sex than gay men? Just what I get from your participation in this topic, how often you're posting in it, how important it is that you continue derailing it. This isn't general discussions, this isn't about the government's role in marriage (I also am disgusted with their involvement but I'm not bringing that into this topic because it's OT), and this isn't about morality...it's about prog music that touches upon LGBT themes. Far from contributing, you're preventing discussion.

I am indeed fascinated by how you can possibly know what percentage of my life is spent on homosexual issues (including this thread).  I'll give you a hint: It's almost none.

Looking back on your posts, I can see you have not contributed to the original discussion either, so don't be such a hypocrite.  Smile

However, know that I have spoken to the originator of this thread, and he and I are on good terms, and I understand and applaud his intention.

It's your dedication to derailing this topic. It speaks volumes.

It's hard to contribute when first, the nasty mucky of homophobia has to be washed away (though no one responded to my original contribution which seemed substantially on topic?). Perhaps a new thread for discussing the exact topic of LGBT prog should be started if this one is simply beyond repair. Now that we've actually got a few queer folk in here, it's a shame to see it disappearing. We only get this topic once every four years or so, it's just sad to see it go the same pathetic direction every time.

No need to start a new thread.  If I am unwanted, I will not speak here again.  So long.

Does anyone wanna make a comprehensive list of the artists/bands mentioned in the thread so far? I'm with MO, I'd hate to lose the thread.

Jonsi (Sigur Ros)
Dee Palmer (formerly of Jethro Tull)
Robert John Godfrey (The Enid)
Neal Morse (speculated, participated in the "Hairy Butt Tour" with Nick D'Virgilio)
Wendy Carlos
Rob Halford (Judas Priest)
Sara Lee (Robert Fripp's League Of Gentlemen)
Peter Christopherson (Throbbing Gristle)

I'll add to that list:
Doug Pinnick (King's X)
Gaahl

There are also a number of artists who haven't publicly "come out", likely because they don't feel the need to.

Didn't someone also mention Kit Watkins of Happy the Man (admittedly instrumentalist so not wholly on topic)? Since Judas Priest isn't on PA, that opens the field a bit more to name other "non prog" artists.  I think a good candidate is Marc Almond formerly of 1980s group "Soft Cell".  His solo work is not your typical pop and his lyrics poetically capture some of the angst of being gay in a straight world.  I really also have to mention a pioneer in singing about gay politics and leftist politics in general, English new waver Tom Robinson, who achieved major success in the UK around 1978 in a generally hard rocking style, although some cabaret was mixed in to his anthem "Glad to Be Gay".  For younger people who don't know of him, definitely worth checking out his early work.

Hi Man Overboard, Smile

Allow me to jump in here.

I have already voiced my reservations about these types of threads(in general - religion, sexuality, etc...)
And I have voiced my strong support for this thread in particular(though I did withdraw it just for fun to bust some chops...Wink I felt my precious 1970's childhood was being attacked.)  But then I gave my support back for good.....Smile

Having said that, considering the subject matter and how polarizing it can be I thought overall things were going better than to be expected, so I would hate to see this closed as we have come so far and haven't killed each other.LOL

And as I do get serious from time to time, a bigger truth is that I am a HUGE Spock's Beard & Transatlantic fan
and I absolutely love the picture of Neal in your signature.Big smile   So it is cool to see your posts around here if only for the visuals. Tongue

Cheers!

DM

Uh, one second please...

Moving to the general sections is cool I suppose. To "assimilate" it into the christian thread, the atheist thread and the libertarian thread, just might deliver the armageddon that some people believe is coming....

And I was hoping to catch one more YES tour with JA, before the world ends.  Tongue

I really doubt Neal is gay. Then again, I don't think anyone is "gay" or "straight" because sexuality, like everything else in human psych, cannot be divided into black and white. Doesn't stop people from trying though. And with this opinion I simultaneously piss of both the pro and anti-LGBT people. Come at me bro!

What the hell, why did someone kick out Epignosis? He was one of the 5 reasonable folk in this whole thread.

P.S. - this is a troll thread now. Enjoy.

Dude,

If you are even one quarter as tough as the guy in your avatar, nobody is gonna come at you.Wink

Second, I highly doubt Neal is gay and it is border-line at best, to speculate his is.  Not because I like his music, but simply because if he were, he would not engage in the Evangelical movement he has been doing.

The Evangelicals are leading the way with the whole Homosexuality is against God, etc...

As a proud reformed raised Roman Catholic, I just try to make sure that people don't eat meat on Fridays.Wink
That is my only agenda. Smile  (Oh and I do seem to have an agenda in the Bruford VS Chester Thompson Genesis drummer thread...LOL)

An quite obviously, Gorilla's have hairy butts so, the 2 Separate Gorilla tour is a natural tie in with that, without any sexual connotation whatsoever.  I guess by this logic poeple will claim that Neal likes Gorillas???

How bout a "Gorillas In The Mist" tour?Shocked

He wasn't really contributing to the topic at hand. Rather than contribute to the discussion (LGBT people in prog) he was derailing the topic with bigoted statements. Of course there isn't such a thing as "gay prog" or "christian prog" in a musical sense but how is that relevant to the topic at hand? This is an appreciation thread for gay figures in the prog and prog related communities.

And the bit about Neal was meant as a joke, I figured that was obvious.
