South Of No North:  From http://humptydumptyrecords.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/hmpty014-south-of-no-north-octopussies.html (will need some paraphrasing again... Embarrassed )

Cédric Stevens, a.k.a. Acid Kirk, is one of Belgian techno's pioneers. Since 1993, he has been DJing all through Europe's biggest clubs, sharings stages with many of the world's finest DJs. In 1997, increasingly obsessed with free jazz, psychedelic, experimental and avant-garde music, he co-founded Elf Cut Records, where he worked as A&R. At the same time, he started working on a new project, Syncopated Elevator Legacy (S.E.L.), where he could explore new musical territories.

S.E.L.'s studio work has been praised by many artists (Christian Fennesz, Vibracathedral Orchestra, My Cat Is An Alien), and some of its songs caught John Peel's ear, who played them on his BBC show.

In 2003, Cédric, Flash Bunny (Jean-Henri Rigo) and Naan (David Meunier) founded the  DRIFTING BEARS COLLECTIVE. South of no North, their epic psych-noise debut, was released in 2007 thanks to Le Bonheur, Brussels’ “multimedia grocer's”. Vinyl only, the album did well, and was highly praised by english magazine The Wire.

The trio shifted to quintet with the arrivals of Squeaky Lobster (Laurent Delforge) and Sun Papa* (Laurent Baudoux) and soon began working on a new album, with a radically different approach, much more professional and cohesive. The band changed its name to SOUTH OF NO NORTH to deliver a second album, Octopussies Liquor Store. This new record marks a big step forward, in the production as well as in the writing, more mature and daring, not afraid to extend one of the compositions to 35 minutes. Their love of psychedelic, free jazz and obscure forms of world music is still patent, but this new step sees them evolve radically, and add krautrock and experimental noise to the trip.

Active for many years under the aliases, or as member of Sun Ok Papi Ko, Scratch Pet Land and Fan Club Orchestra. All three projects were released by german avant-garde label Sonig.

Limbus 3 & 4: From: http://wasistdas.co.uk/Krautrock/limbus-4-mandalas/

Bernd Henninger, Gerd Kraus and Gerd “Odysseus”Artner recorded as Limbus 3  (“New Atlantis“, 1969) before releasing “Mandalas” in 1970 as a quartet with second percussionist Matthias Knieper. In 1971 the project fell apart.

The music on both records is heavily influenced by ethnic music styles from all over the world, mainly African and Indian music. It’s an all acoustic and fully improvised affair: Viola, Percussion and various exotic instruments that Kraus got from friends who travelled foreign continents and brought tablas, a sitar, a bul-bul tarang, different kinds of pipes and other stuff to the hippie-commune based in Heidelberg back then.

Limbus 3 were actually formed in 1968 in Heidelberg.

'New Atlantis' referred to above is in fact track four (the whole of side two) of the album 'Cosmic Music Experience', and indeed the album was actually also known by this title - hence the use of the alternative name 'New Atlantis' in the above text.

Go for it! Star

i just added bios to those without them cos i found a list and realised it could be done, and not a lot had been added over recent times from the list so they become forgotten entities.

The more that contribute to adding the bios, the easier and quicker it will be to have no more gaps, which is what we all want, and it helps the site! Smile

A collection of info about Jonathan: (It will need a lot of editing Embarrassed).

Firstly a snippet from a blogspot (which I haven't posted a link for because it contains a download link - even though the link has long-since died).

But for now another german gem called Jonathan. The same titled LP dates from 1978 and was released on Heinz Ulm's AAR first and later (soonish) rereleased on Bellaphon.
Jonathan consists of 2 basic members - Peter Garrattoni (Nexus, Euenspygel) on drums and Helmut Grab (Matter Of Taste) on the keys and electronics.
Back cover says they were accompagnied by Emil Wirth playing bass on Funky's Visit and Uli Buehl playing a Roland synth on Raising Winds, Fender Rhodes on Waters and Grand Piano on Moved Earth.

Here's the complete tracklist:
A1 Li Song (5:49)
A2 Raising Winds (3:47)
A3 Funky's Visit (4:13)
A4 Waters (2:58)
B1 Moved Earth (5:17)
B2 Stormy Days (8:20)
B3 Melotary (4:14)

Jonathan "Jonathan" LP, May 1978
Produced by Heinz Ulm
With: Helmut Grab, (Minimoog, Rhodes, Roland, Solina),
Peter Garattoni, (drums)

After it’s very successful release, this album was also licenced by Bellaphon Records, where it was manufactured with the same cover artwork and LP number BBS 2583 >. Another release of this album was in Greece on the "music box"-label with order number SMB 40081. A curiosity is that the front-side of the album is the same color artwork like on our original, the backside of the cover is in black-white only.

Jonathan are another in the line of late 70s German progressive rock acts with dominant keyboards, similar, at least in approach, to groups like Schicke, Fuhrs & Frohling, Sirius, Zyma, Octopus, Streetmark and others, but resembling more an act like Age or Pythagoras due to their, primarily, keys (Helmut Grab) and drums (Peter Garattoni) lineup. They are probably closest to SFF (or even Fuhrs & Frohling) in that Jonathan are an instrumental duo, although their sound is generally less full than SFF and prone to the string synth sound of the late 70s and early 80s rather than the mellotrons and organs of their influences. The seven compositions, none particularly compelling here, range from the three minute "Waters" to the eight plus minute "Stormy Days" to make for a rather short effort. The keyboards dominate, naturally, as they are often doubled both by Grab and guest, and often there are parts with electric piano backing and synth lead fronts. Rhythmically, it tends to be fairly 70s fusion at times, particularly on the cuts "Funky's Visit" amd "Melotary," but for the most part the rhythms seem to be built around the keyboard lines, an approach similar to the US group Glass or an obscure French act like Ocarinah or Kha-Ym. Despite the tonal possibilities for (approximately) two keyboard players, this one-shot album tends to be limited to what was at hand, and unfortunately the tones, especially for the era, tend occasionally to the shrill and bright. It's not a surprise that the entirety doesn't gel well, considering the failings of the keys and drums line up in general. If there is any consolation, Jonathan tends to be one of the better of these, which is not saying much.

http://www.popsike.com/Rare-Jonathan-Funk-Psych-Prog-Drum-Breaks-LP/4882307204.html

Legendary electronic krautrock private release from 1978 by German electronic duo featuring PETER GARATTONI & keyboarder HELMUT GRAB plus guests - spacy progrock instrumentals - sought after item for club DJs and producers has killer drum break on 'Li Song' which drops out at the end to another drum break with wild moogs and spacy sounds.

Peter Garattoni plays drums and Helmut Grab (Sw. Shantiprem) plays the Minimoog on "In The Still Of The Night", "Friends" and "Child of Venus" on Li Garattoni's album "Find Out What I'm Dreaming" (1982).

Peter Garattoni was also a member of Krautrock band Eulenspygel (http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2113), playing drums on their last two albums.

Other bands that Peter Garattoni was a member of include German hard rock band Rebel (one album - 'Stargazer', 1982, with the excellent John Lawton on vocals) & heavy metal band Veto (formed 1984)...not to mention other bands such as Floating Opera, Harry Ab , Luxster, Maniac, Maxwell Blues Band, Nexus, Passenger, & Tox.

Helmut Grab played on two of New Age artist Friedemann Witecka's albums - 'The Beginning Of Hope' (1979) and 'Voyager In Expanse' (1983) - he also played keyboards & harp as a member of Matter of Taste, together with Uli Bühl (piano, synthesizer), who guested on three tracks of the 'Jonathan' album (A2, A4, B1,). The other guest musician was Message's (http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=1456) former bassist Emil Wirth, who played bass on track A3 - Funky's visit.

Knitting By Twilight shouldn't really be much of a problem - they have a website: http://www.overflower.com/KnittingByTwilight_More.htm, progmistress has done a very thorough piece on them: http://progmistress.com/2011/08/15/knitting-by-twilight-weathering-2011/, and they are also on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Knitting-By-Twilight/295906428219?id=295906428219&sk=info.

Music & Art Collective recording for the indy label it's Twilight Time. Current members include Co-Founder John Orsi, Manny Silva, Mike Marando and Karen Orsi.

Biography
Formed by Musicians/Composers John Orsi and Michael Watson in the Spring of 1994, to serve as an outlet for writing instrumental music unsuitable in theme to either player's regular combos at the time. Evolved to include a regular rotating cast of guest artists, collaborating to bring forth, if nothing else, music of interest and beauty, whimsy and wistfulness.
Has since established itself as the principle writing vehicle for percussionist John Orsi, and an independent label, it's Twilight Time was created as releasing imprint.

Here's progmistress's version:

Knitting By Twilight is a music and art collective based in the historic New England city of Providence (known as the hometown of cult horror writer HP Lovecraft), where it was founded by John Orsi and Michael Watson in the spring of 1994. Orsi, a talented composer and multi-instrumentalist, has been the only constant in the outfit throughout the years. Weathering, the sixth CD released by Knitting By Twilight since their inception, comes in a stunning six-panel package graced with a full-size image of late 19th-century French artist Antoine Bouguereau’s painting Biblis. Orsi is also involved with Incandescent Sky and Herd of Mers, both signed to his own label It’s Twilight Time.

Edit: There are only three releases on their page here at the moment, but all six can be found at cdbaby: http://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/KnittingByTwilight

Kreuzweg (Germany ,1983 ,symphonic rock)

This very famous but obscure private Xian's conceptual prog album is one of the best German  symphonic rock.
Highly recommended to those who love  Novalis, Grobschnitt, and Anyone's Daughter . You will be able to wander into German mystic forests.....
