For me it depends on what arguments someone uses for disliking the band. Mostly it all comes down to personal taste and I the discussion will easily get very useless because of people saying "band X is just boring, why don't you people see that?", and the next person to say "No, band Y is boring, why don't you see that?" and on, and on, and on...

were talking about holy grial with a christian?. I feel people liking PF taking their defense almost religiously!!

Pink Floyd has got a huge fanbase, and I think it's pretty normal to defend your favorite band when people whine about them. Someone who loves DT and is sick of all the bashing will probably defend the band "religiously", someone who loves VDGG and is annoyed by all the people whining about Peter Hammill's vocals will probably defend the band "religiously"... this goes for any big band.

But precisely these actitude makes me wanna go again saying what i feel.

If you feel you should, you could at least give some decent arguments.

What is the point?

What do you gain by doing it?

Is the band going to change?

Will the fans agree with you and stop liking the band?

Do you post in every thread on every other band you do not like? How about Yes... do you not like them? What about Atomic Rooster? Focus? Van der Graaf Generator? Hawkwind? Hawkwind without Lemmy? Hawkwind without Calvert? Hawkwind without Turner? Gong? Gong without Hillage? Gong without Allen? Gong without Moerlen? Gong without Smyth? Gong without Holdsworth?...

If you don't like a band, fine, good for you, congratulations, whoopee!

Personal taste is like that, it's personal.

So, now what? Join the Unappreciation Society? Become a card-carrying member of the Official Unfan Club? Where is this going?

I don't get it.

I don't understand the need to tell people that like a band that they are wrong.

Is this a problem with the band, or the fans that support them "religiously"?

I don't understand why you would expect fans not to react - what do you think they will to do? Nod and smile?

Well, the guy certainly changed my mind about Pink Floyd. I just wrote a five star review review for Meddle ( the 444th by the way ) and I'm going to go back and retract any good things that I said about it. Yes sir. Just watch me.

I will never tire of Pink Floyd.

They are quite unique. They are an institution. As British as fish and chips as far as I am concerned.

They formed an essential backdrop to my teenage years and it is hard to imagine the music world without them. Christ knows how much so many bands, esp. all these hundreds of soundalike modern proggers owe to them for their stylings and sounds.

When it comes to arguments between the brief psychedelic pop offerings of the Barret-led band and the later in-depth masterpieces of the Gilmour/Waters band - there is no contest in my mind. Syd's approach was interesting and quite definitive - but there wasn't much of it. The band for me really took off when they abandoned 'space rock' and went for a thematic/classical/rock approach that started with Atom Heart Mother and then gave us the irreplaceable batch of classics - Meddle / The Dark Side Of The Moon / Wish You Were Here / Animals and The Wall.

The later none-waters stuff ain't bad but clearly not in the same league. Ditto Waters' solo efforts.

Pink floyd ... unique and unchallenged at what they did

Ok the point for me is this tread was supose to be for the people getting tired of Pink Floyd.

I will never enter into a Pink Floyd apreciation tread and bash them because thats not the point.

The only other time i wrote about the Floyds was in a tread about Floyd versus Hawkwind Freakest band ever. There i explained what the fuss with the Post Barret Floyds is about for me. But it was because it seems the proper place to discuss it, and for me there were interesting arguments for both sides.

Now, this tread is in a way non-apreciation tread. I dont know whats the matter or whats wrong with that.

If i didnt like Peter Gabriel ( just an example) i hope i find a tread were i can express my distaste for him.

And i supose there i will find people that by any reason dont like him.

Also i think a lot of people is getting tired of Post Barret Floyds and are realizing the emperor doesnt were clothes. Is not possible for us to talk about without the Floyd Crusades coming to take us to the fire.

And giving hundreds of arguments so finaly it seems we dont have tthe right to dislike this group.

I feel that in the underground theres a deep boring with the band but the Prog ortodoxy declares our view point a heressy.

I think the people coming to these tread to defend with the sword in the hand their Floyd support are not in the right place, is not me.

Why not an unapreciation tread?

I think this thread serves a better use to discuss, and hear opinions and arguments for both sides. This "non-appreciation thread" you speak about sounds totally useless to me. I've never had the tendency to say whine about a band which I don't like, cause, in the end it's all a matter of tastes. I don't like several prog bands, and even despise some. I don't feel the need to start a whining parade about it though so that people all can express their feelings about the specific band (which, in the end is all a matter of tastes). To me there's no use in just ranting on why you don't have the same tastes like someone else in a negative way. Also, I think it's quite normal to defend your favorite band when someone says something negative about it and discuss the subject. I don't mind discussing a certain band. And, the fact that many people won't use arguments in their whining also bothers me.

The matter is if you can have a post to express your negative raction opinions, etc about a specific group or not.

Because frst of all it seems rather oscure not to let tthe people expres their opinions whatever it means from a positive view or not. You know sometimes a negative reaction means something, have at least could mean a gathering of people thinking the same.

Second here were supose to talk of everything but in order, i mean theres not point of bashing no one in a apreciation tread, so the conclusion is if you dislike a group heartly or you shut up or you just star a new tread- a nonapreciation tread. In this way no one gets hurt.

Third the apreciation line of tread is full of treads that doesnt fit exactly with you could understand by apreciation: the most easy example are the vs vs treads. Thats a contest and i think their sucees come because is very boring to see a tread were everyone is saying exactly the same: (we love them, favourites discs, again we love them). I mmean could be very useful for interxchange knowldedge and opinions, merchandaising, whatever but theres no controversy. There can be hardly several lines of thinking if we agree in all.

But returning to this tread Is not supose to be for the people who is actualy bored with pinkfloyd, is normal that people that like the Floyds answer but not in a way that makes disenting something impossible.

I dont think these tread was for controversy but for the ones bored with pink floyd, is normal some discusion but not these "What you feel and think is stupid" attitude. Makes feel im touching some unspoken religious dogma and thats why people is getting mad!

Lets put very simple hope were not obliged to like pink floyd or in the oposite case to shut up.

By the way i would like to say to Ghostmojo that what you are so proud for me is a cause of suspect:

I dont like groups being institutions, british institutions ( they got medals from the queen?), and especialy i dont like the kind of musical institution the Pink Floyd has become. Especialy because i love Barret.

For what it's worth (squat probably) I too prefer Barrett era Floyd and quickly lost interest in what followed after Saucerful of Secrets. However, I also acknowledge that they continued to be innovative and incredibly influential 'post Syd', but most of it just wasn't my cup of tea guvnor. Floyd are one of the most popular bands in the world of any genre and it beggars belief that you feign surprise at their fans defensive reactions to criticism.

BTW Can you imagine just how riveting a Floyd unappreciation (sic) thread would be. Here's a little taster:

I hate Floyd but only after Syd left

Nah, they sucked before he split

No, I hate them more, with or without Barrett

Nonsense, I've been rubbishing their music since the likes of you whiney emo kids were in short pants

Amateur, I've hated them since they were called the Sigma 6

How many of their albums have you burnt right outside Water's house then ?
