How strange, I mentioned something about the sound engineer of Jorge Palma's debut on another thread, only to find out a bit later that he passed away this weekend. Hugo Ribeiro was THE Portuguese sound engineer in the 70's/80's. He recorded all the better known Portuguese Prog artists: José Cid, Tantra, Quarteto 1111, Banda do Casaco and Petrus Castrus.

The very fine American actor Fritz Weaver passed away.  His style was more British.  A finely tuned voiced, an aristocratic sculpted face and demeanor, but a human character, flawed and curious.  He did tons of things, but I loved his role as Vulcan in the first Man From U.N.C.L.E. broadcast episode and his scientist part in Nicolas Roeg's DEMON SEED, opposite Julie Christie and Robert Vaughn.

Mick Fettes from the Australian band Madder Lake.

Madder Lake are often described as part of the '70's "progressive" scene here in Australia and nominated at least a couple of times for PA but I suspect their recorded legacy is probably too eclectic/uneven to fit here really...

In the past few weeks we lost Leonard Cohen, Leon Russell, Mose Allison, Sharon Jones(of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings), Victor Bailey(Weather Report), Martin Stone(Savoy Brown, Mighty Baby among others) and for non music the aforementioned Robert Vaughn. RIP to all of them.

I found that the politics of Vaughn were closer to mine than the apparent jazz loving Russian.  In other words, Vaughn was a Kennedy Democrat and later I found out McCallum was Bush & Bush supporting Scots Conservative/Tory.  I was fortunate to meet both of them as a writer on the U.N.C.L.E. set in 1966.
Vaughn was going to go into politics, running for California senator on the Democratic ticket, but got scared by the Storm Trooper faction who threatened him off camera.  I think he would have done a good job. R.I.P.

I'm damned sad and I didn't like his music. He was a brilliant poet and lyricist, though.
