Yeah what am I doing in the listening thread, when we have this wonderful place
There are some terrifying sections in La Luna Nuova that literally spiral out of proportion, yet they sound utterly fantastic. I am left in sheer amazement every time I hear that track. It boggles the mind how they are able to keep the tempo so fluctuating without ever loosing a beat.

Some (not I) consider this one their best.

I can't believe i'm associating myself with the Dane but it's my favourite too. Will Italy break the Brits hearts tomorrow in ...ahem... football. |

This Canadian's got taste I hope Italy wins. England has never been a fave of mine, but mostly I blame that on the hooligans. It's nonsense I know, because every other team sadly also has them, but it still remains one of my uneraseable misconceptions. Back to music here: Can somebody here think of any artist(s) that share the 'feel' of those first 4 Battiato albums?

I've been hoping for an answer to that question for quite some time now. |

Based on the first listen, "L'isola Di Niente" is my favorite. Fantastic stuff. But I thought the whole album was very good.

David, you might try Luciano Cilio, Rocchi, or early Opus Avantra. No one is just like Battiato but given your tastes I think you might enjoy these.

Linus! Good to hear from you! Hope things are well. I can't help you on the Battiato question. David, your enthusiasm is infectious! Listening to Maurizio di Tollo's first solo album, L'uomo trasparente. Nice stuff! Mellow, lots of piano, keys, and flute. Understated drums, not what you'd expect from such an accomplished drummer/percussionist.

Ah, forgot about Cilio. That's a good one. Juri Camisasca too, just reissued. I think he worked with Battiato.

Thank you Jim. And I think you're right about Franco boy - he really is one of a kind. I do however sense a similar feel in Pierrot Lunaire's Gudrun, which just so happens was a rec from you my friend. Double thanks

Thanks Todd. Music gets me all worked up - even on a day like today, where my head feels like a punchbowl of wasps. I had a wild night to say the least... Maybe I should clean out the ol' cabeza with a personal fave. I'll give you a hint: you're wearing it as a face

Stirring up some trouble, John? With the football, I mean. You've already chastised me about L'isola di niente.

Doing well, thanks. I just took my oldest daughter to college--that's the biggest development in my life these days. It was strange to see her in the same spots I used to hang out--it seems like yesterday, and I should still be doing it! Other than that I'm working...like I am now.

I can imagine it being a bit surreal . Any new finds in the wacko-RPI department? Things like Battiato, Area, Sorrenti and other genre-benders? I'd love to find something new like that to listen to. |
