I do think we are splitting hairs when comparing highest salary vs. 5th highest, especially when you consider a lot of the Yankees money is tied up in overpaying players like A-Roid and Tex with fading skillsets. They are overspenders not wise spenders. They are paying Hiroki Kuroda $10 million this year, for christs sake.

True, but the difference between the Tigers and Yankees salaries is still higher than the total salary of 6 or 7 teams.
The Tigers have 23 million tied up in Fielder, whose numbers aren't much better then what they are getting for the $500,000 that they have tied up in Brennan Boesch. It is exciting to add a player like that but I have no doubt it will have the A-Roid effect of holding us down in the future.

We're 15-20 right now and considering we had a 12-game home losing streak I think the record looks pretty good. We'd be well over .500 without some of those silly losses.

That was a hard fought 15 innings wasn't it?The Orioles have had like 7-8 games go into extra innings.
Nice to see the Birds get another win. ![Cool Cool](smileys/smiley16.gif)

Most contracts have this effect when guys are signed in FA. Doubly so for 1Bs.

Well that's partially the point MoM. No one seems to care much about those other teams with ridiculous payrolls. ![Wink Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif) You're right though, so much sunk into these players that really are wasting it... and really hurts these days when we have a Jesus Montero that has to be traded (or be wasted sitting or playing minor league)...since we're tied up with these f**king huge contracts. And seriously, what good is that money right now? It's taken playing the Reds to finally be up in a game ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) The offense will get hot as it always does near mid season, the real question is the pitching. If Hughes can get going and stable, and if Pettitte has a good year then we're not looking too bad...

Yeah, I haven't understood why the Yanks continue to sink so much into an aging roster when their farm system is finally starting to become somewhat decent. I guarantee if George was still alive and running the show, some major things would change. Well to be fair, we have the 2nd highest paid player in the majors now in Votto (although thankfully that contract is front-loaded). So I guess we can somewhat relate in having players that want more money than anyone else. ![Wink Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif) Also, the Reds' hitting has gone from awful to mediocre at best. That one game we won against the Braves recently was when Homer fu**ing Bailey was pitching. I also think they need to work Chapman into the starting rotation sometime soon. It sounds like endurance might be an issue, so here's to hoping they can build that up soon. Because if he works out, he's going to be a beast, especially in the NL Central. As a side note, I found out the other day that Votto is building a new $2 million house about 5 minutes from where I live. Maybe I could stand outside and wait for an autograph at some point....

I'd also like to point out that's the first time I've ever been completely objective in my opinion of the Yanks. Do I get a prize for it?

Sadly yes, it probably is prize worthy. It's part the fans fault as well, we all have become addicted to spending (hey oh that's shocker amirite) If by some chance the team doesn't spend, there's a fan revolt. Not that management should succumb to our whims, but it plays a role obviously. I fear it's gunna be this way forever now. ![Cry Cry](smileys/smiley19.gif) But hey, there's still the game. Like I said, I'm holding some hope for the pitching. CC is always a beast, Nova is pretty good, if we can get quality out of Andy and Hughes well it aint too shabby.. The offense will eventually get on track. I've spoken before of my issues here but that's not being very optimistic of me is it?

What a great pitched game by Verlander!!!! But damn it, I hate leaving a winning game disappointed. 2 batters away from seeing my first no-hitter (if you don't count Galarraga's perfect game plus one very bad umpire call).

Yanks havn't been much better (rare that both the pitching and batting are faltering) but as always I'll wait till around all star game time to get worried. It's nice to see some life at least, pretty good win over the Royals last night and off to a great start tonight...including 2 homers from A rod (omg ![Shocked Shocked](smileys/smiley3.gif) ) We all know baseball is the most mental game, and no doubt there seems to be a little more "it" when Pettitte is on the mound. Hope they can all feed off it and finally get rolling, and I still hold some hope for the pitching to improve with Andy and Hughes.

The Tigers are becoming an embarrassment. Based loaded and 2 out with Cabrera at the plate and he grounds out. Next inning, bases loaded with 0 outs, and they score 0 runs. Next inning, the Indians get 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and Fielder throws away the routine out at the plate. End of May and our number 2 pitcher has 0 wins and no run support.

Mariners take 2 of 3 from Texas.......not bad for a bunch of no names (except for Ichiro and King Felix). Felix was masterful in that 1st game...

Ohhhh BTW.......Last week I was in Chicago on business and got to go to my first Cubs game @ Wrigley Field. WOW!! What a treat that field is, everything I expected. And as a bonus I was at Kerry Wood's last mound appearance......That was very cool to see his kid come running on the field and give his dad a hug.
Couple of pics.......amazing day too.

Oh well. Verlander had the stupid luck of giving up 2 runs. What the hell was he thinking with this Tigers' offense. He should know that he has to pitch a shutout every outing. What the hell!!!!
