probably "Mandalas" by Limbus 4. the woodwinds on this album are horrible. when I heard the album for the first time I almost fell off my chair laughing when the flute came in for the first time:

Among my least favorite albums by any band are Yes’s Keys to Ascension and Heaven and Earth. It’s honestly hard to choose which is worse!

Keys to Ascension really? Are you sure you aren't getting that mixed up with Open Your Eyes which came out soon after it? Keep in mind Keys to Ascension is the one that marked a return to the traditional prog sound of Yes of the 70's. There were two of them. Both featured live tracks plus new material. If you really do mean KtA then this is the first time I ever heard anyone say it was bad.

The instrument in the beginning of Limbus 4 sounds like a Kazoo to me.

Pretty sure he's thinking of OYE. That's dross. OTOH, the original material on Keys is fantastic. The best music they made since the '70s at the time that came out.

I have the feeling that the musicians of Limbus 4 were total amateurs

This reminds me that I heard two albums by Amon Düül (I think Psychedelic Underground and Disaster) that were truly awful. This may make Moshkito sad once more because I think these albums were authentic improvisation and well integrated part of a political/genberal cultural project, however there was no competence and not much musicality in them.

I should stress that this was the rather political arm of the commune from which Amon Düül II split off to focus on the music, so not ADII (which I love), and neither John Weinzierl's UK Amon Düül branch from the 1980s. Not sure whether these albums are listed here. I thought they were but could now only find Amon Düül UK listed as Amon Düül.

they are listed here. "Psychedelic Underground" is a bad album but historically extremely important. after this album no German band needed to have an inferiority complex

Yeah, that flute almost sounds like a penny whistle. More importantly the person playing it should probably see a pulmonologist. :)

Haha I'm not really sure I think the flute stands out from the rest. No talent whatsoever and Limbus 3/4 has only survived as "cult" because there will always be people uncertain if something that sounds absolute worthless is great art that they are to stupid to grasp. Horde Catalytique Pour la Fin - Gestation Sonore is another example of amateurism mistaken for avantgarde.

This may be the worst album i've ever heard. But I'm hugely entertained by it, so maybe that means I prefer it to countless solid, but boring albums?

Sorry, but yes, I mean the original Keys to Ascension from 1996. Open Your Eyes came out in November 1997, the same month as Keys to Ascension 2. Open Your Eyes was OK, and of the three 1996-1997 albums, Keys to Ascension 2 was the best. IMO, of course.

My two favorite YES albums are Relayer and Close to the Edge. 1970s Yes is best. For whatever reason, though, I didn’t dig “That, That Is” or “Be the One,” the new material on the first Keys to Ascension. I do get mixed up easily, but I wasn’t thinking of Open Your Eyes.

Well, don't be sorry for having an opinion even if it's an unpopular one. I actually don't like Open Your Eyes that much but I do like Invisible Touch and Big Generator. I think part of it has to do with when we hear these albums in our lives and the memories we have of them. Big Generator was the first time I saw Yes and I remember the excitement around it. As for Genesis I didn't see them until way later(2007) but I remember really liking Domino and thinking how it was similar to lamb era or TOTT era Genesis.

As for worst album that's hard to say but "acting very strange" by Mike Rutherford has to be a contender for me. His vocals are horrible on that. "The Fugitive" by Tony Banks isn't much better actually. Both of those make any post Duke album(including Calling all stations)look like a masterpiece.

BG was also my first Yes concert, and that concert was what sparked my interest... 31.5 years later, I can see why some people who love Yes as much as I do aren’t big, so to speak, on Big Generator. But yeah, definitely.

I always try to find SOMETHING good about an album. Don't forget that people are daring to put themselves out there. Sometimes songs don't come out quite the way they were originally envisioned.

I guess so, but sometimes artists screw things up or do an album because they have to rather than want to, etc.
(and I do take every album for what it offers, I listen to some albums other would not touch! LOL

Of prog? Henry Cow's In Praise of Learning. Just ludicrous.

Momentary Lapse of Reason, Horrible, Unlistenable. It sounds like a poor imitation of Floyd. Everything about it is just dull and sub par.
