Seeing how the question is posed I can honestly answer Asia.

AsiaOn Tour
2,425,309 plays (276,490 listeners) 1,095,277 plays (56,659 listeners) Kind of an extreme blowout on my spin list.

SGM is about the only band in the Avant Prog category that I can think of that didn't really appeal to me (rather disliked). I only have Of Natural History and hadn't listened to it in years. It has elements that I love, and I could see it being a three star album for my tastes, maybe four if more of it clicked. Though not a fan of SGM, I think Asia horrid (mind you, I've only heard the debut in full and not for more than twenty years, but I have listened to various Asia tracks over the last few years which I thought pretty sucky). So a vote for SGM.

Having only ever listened to Asia once (and it was dreadful), I'll vote for SGM whom I happen to quite like.

I like pop, but I really can't see the appeal of Asia. There is NOTHING in their music that grabs my attention.
Even the crappiest pop song on radio sounds more enjoyable to my ears...

Probably good reason, then, why it's such a ridiculed band. What I really hated about that debut album is that it had this kind of bad prog quality mixed with pop/ Arena rockish stuff. It's vapid and quite overwrought. I like a lot of pop music -- especially 60's French pop, and so-called Avant Pop. |
