Voted Yes - Stairway is certainly progressive, along with the more folky tracks on it.  Only borderline though, plenty of fairly simple (but brilliant) middle-of-the-road rock songs on it.

How about Physical Graffitti? I think that's more prog but sure Zep always
had some prog sensibilities in their songs though they were never "all out"
prog.
One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless Compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity

With each successive album the mighty Zep progressed from their basic blues-rock beginnings to include bits of folk, reggae, funk and world music.  Very few blues-rock bands of that era bothered with trying to expand their boundaries, so for that I give Zeppelin loads of credit.  Of course I also feel like Black Sabbath's first six albums were progressive in their own way.  I mean what other metal band had the audacity to play with Rick Wakeman?  And, not only did they play with Rick they made it work and as a result 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' has long been of my favorite albums and a very progressive hard rock album I might add.  No Sabbath and Zeppelin weren't Yes or ELP, but they were progressive compared to other bands that came from the blues-rock boom of the late 60's.

1973's 'Houses of the Holy' would be closer to prog, It has an incredible amount of styles and certain connections with what other prog groups were doing around that time, 'The Song Remains the Same' and 'No Quarter' are perfect examples of this.

Led Zeppelin IV is hard to categorise, Not one song sounds alike really, It's certainly more progressive than what most groups associated with Zep were doing.

Quite simply: no. Zeppelin IV is not prog related. It's blues related rock, whereas i.e. LZ I is rock related blues.

Mike, I've moved this thread to the non-prog section, as the proto-prog and prog related section of the forum is for bands who are included in the archives under those categories.

I voted yes by the way, but is there a specific relevance of the question? The inclusion of individual albums doesn't happen.

(I voted yes by the way!Wink

Led zeppelin should be in this web... I don´t now which genre will you choose but they have plenty of songs that could be easily cataloged like prog ones!

my vote it´s YES to LZ IV!

...And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone...

^ fair enough, I should have created the poll in the Non-Prog section.

But re the band/album discussion: I thought that the initial rule of thumb for the inclusion of prog artists was that they released at least one progressive album? Then it would also be reasonable to look at the most progressive album of a prog-related "candidate", wouldn't it?

If I could vote then it would be yes. Not sure why I can't vote though.

(Not really sure what prog-related is to be honest either Not sure about anything anymore)

I don't seem to be allowed to vote in this either.

Anyway, I'd say no - it's a mixture of rock (Black Dog, Rock'n'Roll etc) and folk (Going to California etc), as someone else said other Zep albums have more prog elements.

Hell no - Zep were not Prog. Sure they pushed the boundaries but they operated within the genre of hard rock. Leave it there.

I don't understand this apparent need to include everyone under the sun in this site. Somebody wanted David Bowie. Or Stravinsky. One day soon someone will propose adding Madonna.

Can't vote either!

It's not about "prog", but "prog-related".

Here's my detailed review: http://www.ratingfreak.com/db/reviews/_auto_5991591.xhtml

It shows which tracks I consider more or less progressive ...
