Here is the next poll of the series, the one dedicated to 2004! An interesting year overall from which many of the big names are missing yet it is full of good albums. Comparing it to the previous years we had included, however, 2004 might as well be among my less favorite ones, which does not mean that it did not have its highlights. Star
Add your further suggestions on albums you enjoyed from this year that have not made the poll. My vote definitely goes to Mastodon's 'Leviathan', which I consider their best release to this day.

Albums with the most votes from the previous polls:
2000: Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun
2001: Tool - Lateralus (previously Opeth - Blackwater Park)
2002: Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
2003: Anekdoten - Gravity

I really like music by Neurosis, and The Eye of Every Storm works for me. I am very into atmospheric music, post-rock, post-metal, sludgy stuff. My second choice would be Mastodon's Leviathan. Nice to see more polls here that don't just cover the very usual PA forum suspects, including what I might all too usually cover.

Fates Warning.

And... Mattias Eklundh - Freak Guitar: The Road Less Traveled, and Spastic Ink - Ink Compatible.

I went Fates Warning but prefer Guapo's Five Suns and Indukti's SUSAR.

I'm not having a go, but I really am genuinely bemused by the enduring popularity of Ayreon... Confused

Which album(s) in your opinion should have been more popular on the poll? I would say Mastodon and Pain of Salvation

Conversely, I'm genuinely bemused by the enduring unpopularity of Ayreon. No one in my local village has even heard of Ayreon. Confused

I used to like them, but their last few albums made me quit on the band altogether. Arjen also repeats the same formula over and over, it's become tedious, well, at least for me. I can't even listen to the albums i used to like (i.e. Into the Electric Castle). His other projects are not better.

Oddly, as much as I loved Perfect Element and RL, I could never really get my head around 'Be'... it was just one of those bemusingly disappointing affairs. I'm sorry, but I never liked Mastodon at all... did try at the time, but they just weren't for me. I'll get back to you with 2004 releases of this ilk I would have included.

Therion: Lemuria/ Sirius B... no list could be complete without this.
Angra: Temple Of Shadows (their best)
Abydos..... Prog-metal perfection if you ask me
Mind Key: Journey Of A Rough Diamond (really enjoyed this one-ff at the time)
Evergrey: The Inner Circle
Andromeda: Extension Of A Wish - Final Ext
Nightwish: Once
Dead Soul Tribe: The January Tree

yes, I'd have voted for any of those... I think Therion might have nicked it, with Abydos and Threshold in joint second??
