Now, now, children, if you can't play nice in the sandbox, you will have to go back to the classroom and write 100 times "I will not be yucky to people."

Peace.

Meh.

I was far more interested in the religious debate than the boring clash of wills or the feminine exodus from the site (which I still think is largely fictional).

I'm not trying to jab at you, threefates, but your words seem to be painting a picture of Christians who can take or leave Christianity as well as nervous little prog girls who can't bear to be on a site with opinionated men (I'm hoping we've come to the point where women can hold their own...and be just as annoying and opinionated as the rest of us!). Your 'victory' over Reed is almost laughably 'stereotypical-female', circa 1950 or so...you have silenced him with an overwhelming avalanche of emotional outbursts which disdain reasonable debate.

Not that I'm letting Reed off the hook, either...he fell neatly into the trap, sacrificing reason for response in kind! Oh well, I've made the same mistake...sometimes you just get tired of yelling into the wind.

I think that's exactly what Van Morrsion was talking about in "Full Force Gale"

ooo, that's uncalled-for. My apologies to Van the Man and Christians everywhere.

You'll never know, Jamie... but I assure you those weren't emotional outbursts.. and if your wife emotes that quietly... then you're a lucky man.

Christians don't take or leave Christianity.  We may not all see it in the same way.. as evidently we don't all see Radiohead in the same way... and the women don't leave here because they are nervous, but because they get tired of pompous old nerd men who spend most their time trying to impress one another... Now I'm understanding why so many women don't like prog... its not the music... its the stereotypical men attached to it...

But I'm not taking a jab at you James, afterall its guys like you that make it easier for me to find an empty bathroom at prog concerts...

^ You'd be pretty well set at Nascar events and the United States Capitol Complex, too!

Seriously, though. Maybe my own outlook clouds my judgement, but neither maani nor Reed have struck me as being excessively pompous...it just looks to me like we're just a bunch of (at least relatively) bright guys who enjoy discussing these things, even to the point of getting a little wound up about them. Nothing really wrong with that, is there? At worst, it's a little pointless...at best, we might actually learn something (both Ivan and maani have posted facts that I found very interesting during this debate).

It also seems like you take some schadenfreude in pointing out when you think the folks who are talking need to be 'taken down a peg' in your estimation. I'm pretty sure that's the thing that sets people off, not that you're a woman who 'dares to speak when the men are talking'. I'm sure there are plenty of men who still think that way, but I don't suspect that it's a widely held view in this little society of ours.

I'd of applied for that job when Clinton was there too!

I've learned a lot from Maani and Ivan on many threads on the Board...

Oh, I don't think that at all.  I just noticed that they kept arguing one extreme against the other. I thought I'd just throw in a "middle of the road".. and see how they dealt with it.

Sorry DB for skipping over your question.  I'm sure one of the others will correct me on this if I am wrong (being that I wasn't raised Catholic or from a Protestant faith that used the Apostle's Creed) but I have asked this question before and was told that the word "catholic" was the name given to the universal church of Christ.  It is from this that the Roman Catholics take their name.. howver in the Creed, it doesn't mean the "Roman Catholic Church"... it means the universal church of Christ.

From the dictionary 'catholic' means: 1 a often capitalized : of, relating to, or forming the church universal b often capitalized : of, relating to, or forming the ancient undivided Christian church or a church claiming historical continuity from it 2 : COMPREHENSIVE, UNIVERSAL; especially : broad in sympathies, tastes, or interests

not sure that I can confess that, but I understand the
the response as it is traditional.

Quote All Saints' is a community of ordinary people who, since 1861, have worshipped God the Father through his Son Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and have lived out the Christian life in a rich Anglican Catholic tradition.

Ivan, although I cant be sure, are you not confusing the adjective "catholic" with the noun "Catholic"? This is a common mistake especially when quoting The Nicaen Creed. "catholic" small "c" means: "all-embracing" and not "relating to the Catholic Church".

Now whose using other people's points???? Eh ???? Tongue
