Hi,

Goodness ... am looking at my spreadsheet for all my reviews to get a better idea ... that's an insane, amazing list you placed here!

Almost all of my film reviews come from the 60's and 70's, the time I saw most stuff, and since the 1980's without some university nearby with "art films" my ability to see things ended with the Portland International Film Festival and nowadays, whatever I can pull out of Amazon ... and in terms of new things? Not a whole lot ... but the 70's I can write about and already got a listing of directors, and now I'm looking at films ... but your list is huge and outrageous great ... and I love it ...

Let's see what I come up with ... might take me a while!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Hi,

Haven't seen everything listed ... though from your list it is about 15 to 20 films or so. Finding them these days, is weird and mostly if you can find a used CD on Amazon!

NOTE: Many of these were directors that I saw their work religiously and many of them had a lot of films before the 70's. Thus the listing seems incomplete, though I made sure that the date that is given is listed from IMDB.

The following list is taken from my spreadsheet on reviews and just cleaned up with a few more listings that I had not seen. In general, from my listing I've seen almost all of the films, as the 70's was a very good time for film for me and catching a lot of things in various Sunday Night art films at UCSB (for example) plus a few things that were showing up in what became known as the big Film Festival over there. In general, you got to see almost all of these things, and also included lesser known films with various known folks, like Sophia and Marcello.

I listed a couple of other things also listed from my Spreadsheet

Bruno Bozzetto because his cartoons are excellent ... and Allegro Non Troppo is a must see! A "Fantasia" for adults more or less.

Marguerite Duras, was better known as a writer and playwright, but a lot of her work ended up on the screen.

Carlos Saura's time started after the 1970's when he went on to do a series of DANCE films ... that are excellent. His "Carmen" is tops!

Michelangelo Antonioni had better days before the 70's and kinda stopped when he was screwed by the American Producers for a film that he decided to not have anything to do with it. He didn't write the Hollywood trash hippie story at all!

Mario Bava was better known as a horror story director. I think (have to recheck) that he eventually did one of the best and most honest Dracula films per book!

Rainer Werner Fassbinder is not an easy find, but was able to catch a couple of these things, though most is really difficult to find.

Rene Laloux is listed for "Fantastic Planet" which is a cartoon, and a very good one.

Krzysztof Kieslowski became way better known from the 1980's on, and his formative years is the stuff that I have not found much of, and one compilation of early works cost way too much for my budget.

Dario Argento is a film maker that I did not spend time with a whole lot, though I have almost all of the GOBLIN albums associated with a lot of these films, and all of them mis-used the music badly!

One of my favorite European movies from the 70s is definitely Brunet Wieczorową Porą. It's an iconically absurd crime story spoof.

Hi,

If you ever see the film "SAVAGE MESSIAH" by Ken Russell, you will get a crazy laugh for about a minute ... it's hard to think of it as a compliment, but in the end, it just seems ... funny ... terribly funny!

Luchino Visconti's is the original film based on Thomas Mann book.

A couple of years later, composer Benjamin Britten created an opera from that novel.
