TV is out of bounds at the moment for me as my wife is glued to the latest season of Married at First Site Australia - 35 at least one hour long episodes.

^ yes it does! In the drama they speak fluently either Gaelic or English but it's just never one or the other. Amusingly, I heard the word 'Spondoolix' used as Gaelic for money yet this is used as slang in English the same way 'bread' or 'dough' is used. Presumably it's a Gaelic word and the slang came from that language I guess.

An t Eilean/The Island
Crime drama made by BBC Alba in the Gaelic language. It's very interesting and well made. The blurb:- On an island, an enemy is forever. A dysfunctional family's world is shattered in a tense, twisting story of lies, loss and long-buried secrets. Groundbreaking Gaelic thriller. 8/10 ![]() Edited by richardh - February 23 2025 at 23:33 |

^ No problem. I do like Paramount+. It has a good mixture as regards TV shows. Yellowstone is its flagship show but it also has the popular Lionesses and the Dexter reboots.

Thanks Richard. I think we're too invested to switch to an American remake, and we currently don't have Paramount plus. But we switch services every so often, so that's great to know. The cast in the Bureau is really excellent.

^ funnily enough I mentioned that on the previous page. You may want to check out The Agency in that case. Also Paramount+ seem to be carryng all 5 seasons of the French original version.
Googled: Yes, The Agency is an American remake of the French spy series Le Bureau des Légendes, also known as The Bureau. Details:

We were in the middle of a wonderful French series called "The Bureau," a spy thriller, but unfortunately our streaming pulled it for some contractual reason and now we can't finish it.

The Agency Season 1 (10 episodes).
Based on the French TV series called Le Bureau des Legendes. I watched about 2 seasons of that but it was as slow as anything and I gave up. This English language version is transported from Paris to London and centers on the activity of a CIA agent played by Michael Fassbender. Unwisely he has formed a romantic trist while undercover in another country and can't let it go. This makes him vulnerable and appears to break the rule book. What follows is quite interesting but for me lacks excitement I'm afraid to say. If you like slow paced stuff with tons of plot this is for you. IMDB 7.4/10

on the subject of comedy I'm enjoying Amandaland which is a new one from the BBC starring Lucy Punch and Joanna Lumley. Great fun. Also good to have Mythic Quest back for a 4th season.

Justified Tim Olyphant and Walton Goggins, Joelle Carter, Mykelti Williamson, and many more. They call it a neo-Western, but really it's just an outstanding character drama with very memorable performances. Characters are written with enough depth and human emotion that we care. Despite the crime element, human interaction is placed above action and violence, something I always appreciate. Loved it.

While I won;t say that the second season/series of Squid Game I enjoyed as much as the first, I still really like the series. And while I'm not big on reality shows generally, I actually found Squid Game: The Challenge quite excellent. I binged the German sci-fi Cassandra yesterday on Netflix (about a 70s smart-home/AI/robot). I could have enjoyed how it played through more, but I did enjoy the show very much. Some of my favourite shows on Netflix have been German, especially Dark which may well be my favouroite show on Netflix. Looking forward to the next season of Alice in Borderland on Netflix, which has some similarities to Squid Game. And the final Stranger Things this year. |

The Crow Girl 6 episodes (Paramount+)
Eve Myles (Torchwood) seems to be making a habit latterly of appearing as a police detective in intense psychological thrillers. Also stars great Scottish actor Dougray Scott, also becoming well known for this type of old school copper who 'gets the job done' but not always going by the book. It's well cast and based on a book by Eric Axl Sund (the pen name of 2 Swedish authors). Apparently it was guitarist Slash (yep him!) that helped bring it to the attention of Buccaneer Media for adaption and he is also credited as a co producer. Paramount+ are clearly satisfied with it and currently a second season is in production. I liked it for the very clever writing and acting dynamic between Myles and Scott as best buddies and partners. 8/10

^ last time I looked, the rights for a second season were bought up by Stan which is an Australian streaming service. It was filmed off the coast of Australia and to date is considered the most expensive TV show ever filmed there. I loved it btw.

Nautilus - I see that Disney binned this and Amazon took it up. I've read some scathing reviews too and wasn't expecting much from it. But I caught the first 2 episodes and it's actually rather good. Sure it won't win any awards and the acting, script and effects are bit off at times but it's a romp and c'mon this is Captain Nemo after all. Chances of a second season are zero, which is a shame. I'm certainly looking forward to the rest of this series though.

Shrinking 12 episodes
Easily my favourite comedy of the last 12 months, it manages to be very rude in a subtle understated way. They make as many 'twat jokes' as 'dick jokes' and get away with it somehow! Very engaging characters and who knew that Harrison Ford could act
