Done two today cause I am still recuperating and as a combination PA chart and collab choices for the Collab Album of the Year event (also has my personal faves section of course), this series is coming to a close. I know some are trying to play catch up with their own lists I think the first collaborator AOTY was for 2005, the first one I joined. I would like a topic dedicated to our yearly lists at Awesome Prog in PA (I like such duplication). If one of Mike's (MikeEnRegalia) topics works well for that, then perhaps we could use that to share here too. I am at about 1985 now and would like to go back to 1960 at least with my own lists there. But to me it's not enough to make a list, I like to share and compare lists and discuss selections with others (well, to some extent, as I am not terribly sociable and I am hardly adept at forum chat). Some might want to share lists at rateyourmusic too, I have yet to do that, but we have some people with many themed lists there such as Silly Puppy Mike. It would be wise to take a break from polls and maybe some others who may find many of these topics dissatisfying will come up with their own lists, topics and ideas. Build some topics, it will be brilliant!

Mostly standard yet perhaps somewhat strangely modified spiel:

The first eight are taken from the unfiltered, except by year, Prog Archives Top Album Chart for 2006. The second eight is taken from the top eight listed albums of the 2006 Collab Album of the Year topic. This is a first, not only does the top eight in the PA Chart for 2006 and the top eight for the Collab chart not share any of the same albums, but neither does the top 10 0f each list. The third section are taken from my top 11 picks of a list of 30 albums at Awesome Prog. In my top eight I share two with the PA top four chart and one with the Collab AOTY poll (it's "winner", or sausage as one person might have said). I also have liked One Shot very much. As ever, I don't wish to duplicate albums across sections in the poll.

"Other" as a voting option is intended to use if you don't like any of the listed albums in the poll. That said, I would ask people to mention their favourites both on and off the list. If, for instance, your favourite in the poll is Unexpect's In a Flesh Aquarium, but your actual favourite from 2006 is Kevin Federline's Playing With Fire (anyone here remember him?), then I request both voting for and mentioning Unexpect's album in a post while also mentioning Federline's tour de force, or more like a farce, as being your actual favourite album of 2006.

So I would like to hear about what people like both on AND off the list if applicable and, to reiterate, for the "other" voting poll option ONLY to be used if nothing is liked that is already listed. Please do mention as many of your favourites as you like, both in and off the poll. And feel free to mention what you don't like that is listed too, and then preferably why it does not appeal. If one would be so kind, please mention your vote, mention if you can't or won't vote for any of the listed options (reason), and mention other likes if applicable. Thanks. :) And there is no multiple choice.

PRR - fabulous debut
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I mean I knew before I even looked at your list Jonana Newsom's Ys would be on it and that I would be voting for that. Another all-time favourite album of mine. She's the reason I travelled to Chicago in 2013 to see Pithcfork festival.

2006 is before my time, and I know a few from this list (OOIOO, Unexpect, Decemberists) but nothing else on the list comes even close to the majesty that is Joanna Newsoms best album imo.

Given the period of my life, my favs from this year are not prog, although there are a few:
Alec K Redfearn and the Eyesores - The Smother Party
Dear Hunter - Act I (did I miss mentioning Act II in another poll?)
Devin Townsend Band - Synchestra
Islands - Return to Sea
Jay Munly - Jimmy Carter Syndrome
The Knife - Silent Shout
Luca Turilli - Infinite Wonders of Creation
Luca Turilli's Dreamquest - Visions
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
Stolen Babies - s/t

Going through my music library, most of my other favourites from this year are also not prog.

Voted other - Zombi's Surface to Air. There is nothing like being wrapped up in a warm paragraph.

I like your personal first two most, Greg: NSRO > Joanna Newsom. In 2006 Barbara Morgenstern did The Grass Is Always Greener, which is probably my most played album after 1990.

It is a wonderful album and could have been in my top spot, and in fact if I were to choose one track then "Only SKin" would have been my immediate thought.

Glorious. I opted to give that album a vote despite my love for that North Sea Radio Orchestra album. She is something really special. I liked her then very much, but I now really love her music.

And thanks for the list, and others too!

Kind of surprised that neither of you like any albums in the poll, but that is a good album that I had neglected for my Awesome Prog list. Listening again, it has been many years since I last listened to it.

I have been exposed to various of her music via you (and others methinks) and I should give that album a spin.

------------------------------------------

As for my list, while in 2006/2007 my list would have been Avant Prog/Zeuhl dominated, this is now a heavy folk year for me (dominates my top 10 overall), in which I would include Natural Snow Buildings... Was nice to find that had been added to PA as I have been very into NSB and related acts for many years.

First vote for The Mars Volta (and my favourite album by them). A Matter Of Life and Death is Maiden's masterpiece for me but they are strictly 'Prog related' so is excluded from PA's lists.

I was talking on the phone while composing this, and it's really poor (even for me), I think, but I made the effort so will post anyway...

While I used the default setting for 2006 and Proto Prog and Prog Related are automatically excluded from the charts, one can include the subgenres for Prog Related and Proto Prog in the PA charts by manually jigging the urls. The subgenres are 38 (Prog Related) and 37 (Proto Prog).

For the collab lists, more than one album has made the lists for Prog Related. Of course David Bowie's Blacksstar "won" Collab album of the year in 2016 and that is included in Prog Related and Kate Bush did well while still in Prog Related.

Muse's Black Holes And Revelations is the number one album for Prog Related in 2006, by the way, followed by Iron Maiden's. Muse's is at #186 for 2006 for all subgenres with a minimum of one rating and iron maiden's does not make the top 250. If I set it to 400 ratings and up then Iron Maiden's is at number 10 for all subgenres. See HERE CLICK

Sorry, not at all interesting stuff, but I wanted to play around with the numbers a bit for my own interest and post some related thoughts that weren't too thought out.

I had a friend really into Iron Maiden, never got into it myself, but I have barely tried since the 80s. I was not into metal and the hardest my rock got might have been Led Zeppelin. I appreciate much metal and metal related music now. I like lots of classic heavy metal (Black Sabbath for instance) as well as things like post-metal, doom, stoner metal and quite a bit of experimentlal and noise metal.
