Classic Dutch Prog & Neo Prog

LETHE     A Symphonic Prog band where Lethe is more, courtesy of Prog Line. Not to be confused with the Italian prog band of the same name.

LIGHT     Maybe not the most original of names for a Neo Prog band, as there's at least three other prog bands named Light, but it's still a big improvement over their previous name, Fallus Rex, when you don't even want to know what that means in Latin.  

A LIQUID LANDSCAPE    Not just another Dutch band, but a stunning audio-visual experience - at least according to the album blurb. 

LUNAR CLOCK      Set the controls for the heart of the Moon, where you'll find Dutchman Robin Boer, the composer of The Scream of Nature, although in space, no one can hear you scream. 

MACHINE       Welcome to the Machine, a band who emerged from Dutch pop-soul legends The Swinging Soul Machine and sounding like a curious cross between Chicago and Deep Purple.

MANGROVE      Not a Swamp Rock band, but a Dutch Neo Prog band, and when it comes to Neo Prog, the Dutch do it best of all, proving once again that there's much more to Dutch prowess and expertise than just building polders, dykes and windmills.  You don't have to take my word for it though. Just check out the amazing Knight Area & Like Wendy (both  featured here earlier). Mangrove are the band Genesis could've been in the 1980's & 90's. I wish! Marillion, eat your hearts out! If Mangrove aren't a Dutch treat, then I'm a Dutch uncle. 

MARAKESH    You won't find any exotic carpets or hookah pipes here, but you will find a great Crossover Prog band who are full of eastern promise, and at least you'll avoid the warm smell of camel dung rising up through the kasbah. 

MEDEA     Talking of marathons, Medea specialise in neatly-packaged heavy rock operas for those who don't have time to sit through an entire 24-hour Ayreon marathon.  

MESCALINER       A doped up, tripped out Post Rock band - at least if their name is anything to go by - who've sometimes been compared to King Crimson, although don't let that put you off, as they have echoes of Pink Floyd to my untrained ears. Either way, it's music to chill out to while you puff away on a spliff (allegedly), although I didn't inhale.
