Hawkwind- Alien 4
Typically this album is what you could expect from Hawkwind. Not really a fan of Ron Tree though sometimes he's funny which is a good quality, but he is no Robert Calvert. You cannot replace Robert Calvert and it's silly even if you sound a little bit like him and try. Robert Calvert was pure genius. Pure Sci-Fi writing. Totally captivating with his lyricism. Sorry but no sale. Bridget Wishart arrived being the closest substitute of emulation regarding a Robert Calvert style as she wore masks for each of his songs and was skilled in theatrics. ..aside from her...most people have no business imitating him. The electronic ambient piece by Alan Davey is cosmic and beautiful. Miriodor- Mekano Clearly one of their best . Interesting composition and consistent throughout Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic- Pyroclastics Interesting pieces. At times dark. Present- Triskaidrkaphobie Music for an underworld. Perhaps that seems insulting or over the top..but at least it's honest. Take Avant Garde for example...some hard-core supporters think of any connection whatsoever to the occult is insulting..but if you just chew on it for a while you'll get a sense of the darkside. It doesn't always reach out and grab your attention and it can be subtle and impressionable overtime. Mahavishnu John McLaughlin- My Goals Beyond (Ryko) Beautiful acoustic Jazz oriented style. Very timeless Yes- Yesshows I enjoyed this today. I played it while making dinner. |

I listened to The Who's Rockopera ‘Tommy’ on Track Records. And it just completely blew me away. This is a real masterpiece, music-wise (of course), but also text-wise and in concept. Pete Townshend with his spiritual background of Meher Baba could express some of the eternal questions of life in a way that is very entertaining and enticing. It opens with the grandiose ‘Ouverture’. But the highlight for me is the 10 min ‘Underture’ at the end of side 2 (of a double-LP). The ‘See Me, Feel Me, Touch Me, Heal Me’ part is another genius track which can be adapted to today’s blindness in many different ways. And the end with ‘We’re not Gonna Take It’ brings the conclusion that no religion or system can replace our own respons-ability and our freedom. Isn’t that of utter urgency in 2025? And if you want more, there is a movie (by Ken Russell) with performances by Gipsy queen Tina Turner, Pinball wizard Elton John, Roger Daltrey as Tommy, etc. and stage videos available which give an extra visual dimension to this masterpiece.
