    Posted: November 18 2024 at 03:01
Another year is coming to a close ... let's round up and compare our top releases of the year! As last year, you're welcome to use the tools at AP to compile the list. It works best when you also create an account at AP, but it is also possible without a registration. And of course those of you who will not go to AP as a matter of principle, I'll register your votes as well if you post your list in this thread.

https://awesomeprog.com/release-polls/pa/aoty-2024

If you want to use AP, then you need to:
1. Go there using the link above and compile your top list
2. Export it as forum code and post this code here in this thread (as a separate post, without replying to anybody else within the same post)
3. Then I will pick it up semi-automatically and your votes will be added to the combined list
4. [Optional] register at AP beforehand, making the experience more comfortable (among other things, you will only have to paste your list here once and future updates you make will be picked up at AP directly).
5. [Optional] as a registered AP user, tier the results and get tailored recommendations.

To get things going, here's the current top ten rundown:

^ Counted! Sorry about the formatting, pasting the HTML code depends a little bit on how your browser and the PA forum implementation get along. It works reasonably well with all Chromium-based browsers.

I still don't know how to link releases from AP and i don't have the time to learn how to do it.

I will post a list at some point. Let's also see what albums will be released in December. Smile

^ Sure, it is still quite early - but some already have lists. You folks (and admins) at PA decide about the timeline - and of course whether to make this the official PA polls for the year again. Smile

If you decide to give it a try, maybe the screenshot below helps. Search for a release, then click the "select" to add it. Then follow the instructions ...

I wanted to edit this list earlier today, but AP will now let me. So deleting it for now and will add an edited/ abbreviated list when I can.

EDIT Had just wanted to show the ones already included in PA.    My complete list is here: https://awesomeprog.com/release-polls/pa/aoty-2024/users/Logan 12 of those are in PA, 24 are not, various ones probably could be added to PA. Oh the Godpseed was not linked to PA, now linked so 13 in PA.

From those in PA (from my 36 listed there total):

1. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "No Title as of 13 February 2024 28,340 Dead"
2. The Smile - Wall of Eyes

For third I was going to say Eunuchs Harbour Century but surprised it has not been added to PA as I know interest has been expressed in it.

3. Geordie Greep - The New Sound
4. Uboa - Impossible Light
5. Beak> - >>>> (nice to see that got added)
6. Magick Brother & Mystic Sister - Tarot, Part 1
7. The Smile - Cutouts
8. Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She
9. Mono - Oath
10. God is an Astronaut - Embers
11. Goat- Goat
12. The Decemberists - As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again
13. Glass Beach - Plastic Death
{* 14. Fire! - Testament -- band is in PA but not album yet, not a prog album really anyway, but jazz}

I won't be participating since I've heard very few 2024 releases this year.

Up to you, of course, but you still have plenty of time before they will need to be in for tallying.

I find it nice to see people's lists even if few and even if they choose not to officially participate.  And I value giving the albums exposure that we like, regardless (especially can be helpful for the little-known names).  Maybe you already posted some of your faves from this year in this topic already: https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=132978 I basically used my list there to update my list for this topic.

Most years I have been trying to play catch up, but thanks to how things went last year, I ended up discovering new albums from this year throughout the year.  My issue is now having to suggest and add bands to PA (that's just not an interest of mine) if I want them to count for the official tally   Since I have COVID again and can't do much else, and will be getting very busy again, maybe I will get around to suggesting some very soon for PA inclusion.

I'm not participating either. I probably will come up with a top five eventually and post it. Hey maybe ten, but it hasn't been the greatest year like the last few in my opinion. Still I'm excited over the ones I like. And looking forward to the results of course.

My take on 2024 so far: Less impressive than 2023 for sure, but there are tons of awesome releases. I've listened to almost 200 releases of 2024 and currently have about 50 of them rated higher than 8.5/10. There's a lot to discover!

To those who look for inspiration: Take a look at the combined chart so far. You can narrow it down by genre, and for each release you can see who voted for it. Each entry is linked to external websites like Spotify, Youtube and Bandcamp. If you create an AP account you'll also be able to "bookmark" releases for exploration, or mark them as hidden.

After seeing richardh's list above I realised I've missed a couple off mine. I've changed it at AP and resubmitted it. Is that all I need to do for the new additions to count? I have to admit AP makes doing these sort of things so easy to do. Thanks @MikeEnRegalia.
